After a week of planning prior to our actual design date we saw a few homes with outdoor in the ground spas (without a pool).

Called T&D twice and getting basic info was like pulling teeth, someone said call Vera.

I did she never called back, I think they R too busy.

I wanted to get a ball park of the cost just to consider the idea.

Anyone know what they cost range may be or received quotes?

Also who else install them, must be more contractors than T&D.

They are busy! That's why we had All Seasons build our pool...so happy with the pool and what a great company to deal with. They do spas. Give th a call!

I questioned our designer about an in-ground hot tub with a 2' lanai stretch. He couldn't give me a firm price since the construction through TV is handled by T&D but he estimated the cost to be in the $12k - $15K range. Too rich for my blood so I passed.

Jimbo, the construction of a pool or spa at the time of your build would be with T&D. The rep is Vera Martin and she is quite knowledgeable. Her office is at the design center sales office across from Colony Plaza on 466A. When you go for your design meeting they will set up an appt for you. You need not purchase at that time and she will file your plans for a bit until you decide. The cost depends on size, birdcage, etc... It would not be possible to get a quote until they can see your house positioned on your plat of survey. Then they measure on site as well in order to make your quote. Her # is 352-267-4094

So than it wouldn't be included with the home purchase?

It is included with the purchase as part of the total, but T&D is a separate entity and quotes their own price. The payment is part of your total purchase price and is in the contract. However, your discount will NOT include that quote. It is based on the house and land only...

Sorry can't help you on price. But we love our spa. We are golf front on Palmer and watch the sand cranes, herons, ducks etc. and beautiful sunsets from our spa.

Not exactly the anwser to your question, but....we were shopping at T&D this afternoon. Just a little something we picked up was that an inground spa won't/can't have as many jets as an above ground spa. They have one exception. They have one large spa they can install in a "vault" in the ground. The lady at T&D said that was in the $20,000 range. Doesn't mean inground has to be that expensive, just if you want lots of jets AND inground, that's what they are offering.

Not including the bird cage I thought the cost range would be $7500-10K,

Cut a hole in the concrete pad or have it poured with an opening at the time of build, run electric and drop in a fiberglass spa...

I think TD does concrete spas, plus pump, filter, propane heater, +....seems to add up closer to $15-20k

I think one of their spas is in a model home (Lantana) in the Sanibel section. It can be viewed on the model home page virtual tour, model tour A for the Lantana. Can't link it here as I am on IPad... That one also includes the pool, but you can see it anyways. I also believe you can get electric heat pump.

Well if I do this project I'll use a couple of solar roof top units,
I guess since the cost is higher than expected I do it a few months after we move in or next fall.

Are there any building code considerations you have to comply with? Fence around spa? Self closing doors? etc.

You need to alarm your sliders or any entry from the house to the pool/spa area. But I am not 100% certain if that pertains to a spa only. I added a birdcage so perhaps that suffices as "fence or enclosure?"

Not sure but on the lanai door I saw on one house the door latch was mounted about 4+ feet high, suppose to keep small kids from gaining access easily.

Spoke to ARC they saw no issues but need to call building dept to know any rules.

Found a pic I took last week of the type of install we would like to do.

Our inground spa came with the house. All windows and sliders that go on to the lanai where the spa is, are alarmed. Have three screen doors out of the lanai and cage and each has the handle high like you've seen previously. Not sure if county codes mandate the alarm or not, but when it comes time to insure your new beautiful home, you will be asked if you have a pool or spa. The alarm could help a little with insurance costs I would hope. Many have solar for heating pools or spas around the community. We deactivated the alarm for now since every time we opened one of the sliders, the alarm would blast until you reset the button on the alarm....most annoying.

That looks awesome, Jimbo! I hope you are able to add this at your build! I do have the alarms as posted above and it did reduce my insurance. As I do not have the birdcage up yet, I would assume the door latches would be as Pooh stated up high. I have had an outdoor hotub here in Chgo for the past 20 years or so. I did not get one in TV and am wondering if I will miss that. Likely I have room, but perhaps that might be another project down the line. Guess I need to get through this first year!! I hope it all works out for you! It will definitely be a nice addition!

Ok, spoke to the building dept, if the spa is more than 2' deep all windows & doors leading into the area need to have a buzzer type system, and windows that are within 5' of the water must be tempered glass.

This is to make things child proof.

You do not need sealed architectural drawings just something reasonably drawn up to to indicate the plans.

So far not too complicated.

So, one step forward! Keep moving ahead and hopefully you can fit it into your build! Then it will be ready for a celebratory glass of champagne after the closing!

We are going the above ground spa route. The basic spa from T&D in-ground was not we were looking for. We went to Spa Kingdom on 441 and we are going with them post build.

We put in an above ground swimspa, 20 ft long, 8 ft eide and 4 ft deep. Swimspa on one side, hot tub on the other, radio/ipod/cd, lights, propulsion jets, etc

Well I just bought a 7x8 foot above ground spa with a bunch of jet heads I think like 50, at fair price.

I 'm working on sketching plans to cut away the existing cabinet and drop it into the lanai floor.

I'll have the builder extend the lanai concrete with a hole cut out for the spa to drop into add some short walls around two sides.

It should look like this for about $2500 all in.

The first pic on the left is a WP with an added 16' bird cage giving us a 50' long lanai, did U say Corona's :beer3:

The next two pics R fiberglass or acrylic spas dropped into a concrete stucco design.
