While driving on El Camino Real today, I noticed a small, white Hyundai in the right lane; just in front of us. I saw that the car was heading for the grass and eeked its' way off only to encroach on the left lane. We stayed behind the car for around 8 seconds and it happened again. As we passed on the cars left side, HEADING INTO A TURNAROUND, there she was..... tight curls in her just-coiffed hair and nails out to here and THIS DINGBAT WOMAN OF AROUND 65 YEARS IS TEXTING!! Are you kidding??? How stupid are you that you text when you already cannot drive. If you must URGENTLY text, PULL OFF THE ROAD. You will kill someone and I hope you have read this and that the one you kill ain't me. Living with the guilt is baaaad. How many times do you criticize the KIDS for this crime? SHAME ON YOU.

So many accidents with deaths, so many warnings and still the attitude of "oh, it won't happen to me". Always infuriates me.

Ummm...could your passenger have gotten a license plate number and called the police? Hate to think how I would feel if I found out that she ended up killing someone and that a quick phone call might have prevented it.

Unbelievable. I really thought that moving to an adult community that everyone would think and act like an adult. I am proved wrong over and over. Shame on people.

Not sure calling the police would mean anything. The state of Florida is one of only a few states to not ban texting while driving. The state legislature members feel that would be an invasion of our rights??

I consistently see folks texting on their phones here in T.V.!!! Driving anywhere and doing that is dangerous BUT on the faster highways is down-right lunatic crazy!!!!

It "might" be infringing on rights....but what about my right to live?????

You are all right. Texting needs to be banned here in Florida too. How do we get that done? Maybe talk to our own legislator who is a woman..but I can't think of her name.

Somebody fish me out and post her email address and we will start another thread on this. What do you think?

I agree 100 percent about no texting and driving law, however in NYS this law was passed and you wouldn't believe how many people i saw still texting while driving. Probably more on the phone than not. It was like there was no law ever passed. I guess it only applies to a select few or if you get caught. I've learned that some laws are not enforced much.

too many lawmakers feel they have done their part by passing a law. Without enforcement what is the value of the new law?
Zero.
There is no citizen's arrest provision in the FL law system.
I wish, as I have said many times before, there was. I would be perfectly willing to report, appear and testify for prosecution those breaking the law. With an iphone for garnering proof it would be easy to prove guilt.

And for the poster who thought TV residents were mature and above the stupid stuff. Well, most of us are. Don't we always use the minority report to general a majority???? Sadly the answer is yes.
Take heart in the fact there are more of us that are sensible about most things....there will always be the MINORiTY number of stupids that get all the press/talk.

There may not be a law against texting while driving, but the police can write someone up for careless driving especially if the person is not staying in their lane and is weaving around. The real shame here is that an innocent person is more likely to get hurt than the person who is not paying attention.

The law won't stop people unfortunately since it can "never happen to me". Makes one wonder how some of these people didn't get swept up by Darwin's theories.

I have followed a lot of drunk drivers over the years and you can usually tell a texter as they are worse. More erratic, sudden weaving for one thing. Drunks weave slower.

There is a very popular bumper sticker in Lexington.................
"Honk if you love Jesus, text while driving if you want to meet him"
.Since Lexington is a college town, there is ZERO tolerance for texting while driving.

Isn't there already a law covering "distracted driving"? Why would you need a new law?

I see more people 50 years old and older texting while driving than I do kids. Some of it might be because I live in TV, but it seems when I go back to visit family I still see more older people texting than younger

A young man we knew that lived in Florida was killed while texting and driving. He was texting his brother because he was on the way home from being up all night after the birth of his first born child. The brother and the rest of the family were in their car en route to Florida....Very sad and very unneccessary!!!

Be careful, watch out for the other guy and DON'T TEXT and DRIVE!
