If you are a proficient diy'er, you can buy replacements and install them yourself (take note of the painted spots on the old springs, they denote the capacity of the spring). That being said, the average bear won't want to tackle this job because it's dangerous. Very difficult to wind the springs to the correct tension, and lock them in place.

Depending on how old you home is there may still be a warranty on the spring. Contact the warranty dept. and ask for the brand name. We replaced ours with a company only to find out that the springs were under a warranty.

Those springs are only good for about 7 years under normal usage and if it breaks when the door is operating (which is usually the case), the door drops.

Best not walk under a garage door while it is in operation.

Springs need to be well lubed. I usally lube the wheels and springs yearly and have no problems.

When I had a broken one replaced the repair guy said to lube with silicon spray monthly. I get to it every two or three months. There is probably a manufacturers label on the door that has instructions.

We just called Ryan Ocull and he will be here in 20 minutes. He is replacing both springs for $150. After all, it our house is 10 years old.

Ryan O'Cull knows what he is doing and already fixed the garage door. He was here in 15 minutes after I called and only took maybe 15 minutes. Good job, Ryan!
