I have a question, from reading your posts which one do you find yourselves using more frequently for traveling in TV, your golf cart or your vehicle? How do you use each one, shopping, church (if you do attend), golfing, rec centers? Where do you use each one and how often?

Just wondering, thank you for answering

We use the golf cart about 80% of the time, We live in Silver Lake and sometimes go to Captiva Rec Center. It's not that we can't go in the golf cart it's just that we're lazy and don't want to get out of bed a half hour earlier. We use the golf cart almost exclusively for shopping at Aldi and Publix. We are members at Sam's Club which unfortunately is not golf cart accessible. We go to both town squares regularly and always take the golf cart. When I attend the Beatlemaniacs Club at the ODell Center we take the car because I bring a bit of equipment and again we're not early risers. If we got to different places within the Villages one of us will take the golf cart and one the car. Like I said, about 80% maybe 85% golf cart within the Villages.

I don't have a golf cart because:

1) I don't play golf

2) I dislike the idea of riding around in a golf cart during hot, cold or rainy weather.

3) I doubt I would save enough money on gas to make it pay because I don't do much driving and I have a car that gets 40 miles per gallon. I seldom spend more than $30.00 per month on gas.

4) I don't think it's fun driving a golf cart. If anything, I think it's slow, boring and dangerous.

We use the golf cart for 99% travel within The Villages. Sometimes the car is not started for over a week. Unlike another poster, I find it a lot of fun to drive around in a cart. I live in the Villages of Santiago and go to the Woodshop quite often. It is 5 miles via cart and takes about 17 minutes. To go by car, it takes about the same amount of time but you have to go thru all the traffic on Rt.441 and drive about 3 or 4 more miles. If you pay attention and obey the rules, it is not very dangerous... I think there are more car accidents in TV than cart accidents. One of my carts has an overhead fan to cool in the hot weather, you can buy heaters for cooler weather and put the sides down when it is raining. My wife feels cheated if a day goes by without riding somewhere in the cart, whether it is to get groceries, the doctors, or just out to eat. Just my opinion!

Everywhere in carts. We have two electric carts and one has a hugh fan in the roof for real hot days. We save a great deal of money in gas by not using our car. Plus we just enjoy riding around in golf carts. The flowers here are beautiful and the ponds have wonderful cranes, herons, shore birds etc. We just enjoy our rides so much more in our carts.
We only use our car when we leave the bubble.

We live south of 466, that being said we travel by golf-cart if it's accessible. We probably take the car out once a week. It might be more "if" we have to go to the doctor (which isn't accessible) or if it's "out of the bubble" at all. Probably use the carts 95 to 98% of th time!!

I don't golf...but feel it's a real savings not to use our car PLUS we live in FL so the weather is wayyyy better than when we lived on the "frozen tundra".

We use the golf cart almost exclusively when we are here in TV. We use our car once or twice per month, usually when we go "off-campus" to Disney or other places. We just started to take up golf and that is an additional bonus. I think that having almost everything accessable by golf carts is one of many things that makes The Villages an attraction and a great place to live. You also have the added bonus of being able to find a place to park in or near the town squares when they have a major attraction there.

We use the cart as much as possible when we are home. Why be in a rush when you can enjoy a nice ride? Yes, I do golf, but I also have seen more accidents on the roadway than on the golf cart paths. The only accidents I am aware of involve too much speed around curves or making sharp unexpected turns. A little less "pedal to the metal", a little more communication-yep it is easy to chat while driving along, and a nice breeze....... time to get in the cart!

We use the car as much as possible. Sometimes we are in one part of TV and might want to go to a restaurant on the other side, Walmart, etc. I would be driving all day with the cart. I use the cart mainly for golf.

We also use the car more than the cart. It is a lot of fun driving around in the cart, but it's hot and slow (we have a gas cart) and it just seems more convenient to use the car. I see people coming out of Publix and loading groceries into a golf cart and immediately think "on my, that food is going to baking in the sun for more time than it probably should be". When we are concerned about parking i.e going to Lake Sumter for something we will take the cart because it is more managable and usually easier to park. Whatever mode of transportation you choose - cruising TV is awesome. We also have a Mazda Miata convertible that we like to take out when it isn't steaming hot out.

We use the golf cart most of the time. One of the main benefits for me is that I do not get car sick in the golf cart. It also seems to make the short trips more enjoyable.

I use the golf cart most of the time. I sometimes go more than 2 weeks without taking out the car. When I first moved here, I just didn't get the "golf car" culture. I thought "why take 35 minutes to get somewhere when I can get there in 20 minutes AND have air conditioning." But I have come to enjoy riding in the cart more than the car. I also somehow feel more a part of The Villages by going everywhere in the cart.

We have two carts---one is gas for longer trips to the squares and to golf courses and an older electric to go to the rec. center, pool and mail center. Our car we use for trips off the reservation, to church and when we go from one end of TV to the other. Number of trips 80% cart----total miles in the area about 50% carts and 50% car. With the carts, we only need one car in TV.

I feel like I'm on vacation and in a resort when I'm in my golf cart. I can almost get to Colony Plaza as fast in my golf cart as car because of eliminating the roundabout. The time difference is minimal. That would not be true for long distances. I've never been bothered by the heat but sometimes think twice on very cold days even though I can button it up pretty tightly.

Good point JoJo. I actually get to places sooner in the cart because of no circles. We went to a party tonight and not one car. About 10 carts.

We are a 2 cart rather than 2 car family. Usually we use the car for trips of more than 20 to 30 minutes by golf cart, but for trips that take less than 20 minutes by golf cart we use the carts almost exclusively. With gas prices being what they are the carts are definitely a less expensive way to travel in TV.

Sometimes when we are bored, we just go for a ride in the golf cart. We're thinking about getting a second one because my wife has gotten a job and if she takes the golf cart to work, I'll be stuck with the car.
As far a being hot and using air conditioning, we almost never use the air in out car anyway. It's so much more enjoyable taking a few more minutes and having the wind in your face than driving in a car.

Church, grocery shopping, doctors appointments, hair and nail appointmnts, going to Walmart, resturants, etc My favorite nail tech left and went to a shop that was not golf cart acesible. She wanted me to follow her to her new shop. I said "No Way" I got a new nail tech.
