I see the new BBQ place on 466A is getting its parking lot paved, so maybe it will open while I"m still alive to enjoy it:jester:

It's on the way to Fruitland Park on the left side.

I agree...it feels like I've been looking at that sign for months.

BBQ joints in our area are a tough business....there is a lot of competition.

Maybe it will make the lines shorter this season at my favorite barbecue, Oakwood, over on 441/27....is it in Fruitland Park?

Doesn't that seem like odd hours for a restaurant? BBQ for breakfast? Not open on the weekends and not open for dinner?

I think it's just inside Fruitland Park city limit. It’s on 466a, just before you get to Micro Racetrack Rd, next to/in front of the the nursery there.

I was thinking those hours were referring to the nursery (or whatever) that was operating there. I can't think that 8 to 4 would be good hours for a BBQ business.......

You are correct. The hours on that sign are for the nursery which is still open.

The 8 to 4 hours are probably for the nursery, not the BBQ.

I do believe they are "seasoning" their BBQ grill. This is a must in the business.

Maybe they will get open in time for the January Rush and increased population of TV. I hope this "Mom & Pop" will be ready for that "rush"!!

I've tried the Oakwood restaurant that alot of people rave about but for my money I think Woody's on Rte 301 in Wildwood right near the turnpike entrance is better BBQ.

I know it's been a while since your above message was posted, but I just noticed it for the first time and also think that those that answered the question as to where it is may have misinturpeted the question, or it could be that I'm the one misunderstanding it. They were answering relating to the new rib place on 466A and I'm thinking you asking about Oakwood. If you were asking about Oakwood on 441/27, it's in Lady Lake about 3/4 of a mi. north of Fruitland Park.

Rather than wait for the new place to open try the Texas Stockyards restaurant on 441 just south of TV. We ate there recently and couldn't believe that we thought the BBQ was BETTER than Oakwoods. The BBQ stuffed baked potato was delicious.

Oakwood is seriously, seriously over rated IMO.

I stopped at Burke's BBQ December 24th sometime just after Noon. I spoke with Mr. Burke as he was tossing more wood into the firebox of the smoker (he is continuing to season the smoker).

I introduced myself and we talked a short while about BBQ in general, his BBQ pit, and the restaurant. He was friendly, but very busy as he is working to get the restaurant opened.

Mr. Burke said he hoped to open in 15 days or so, putting the opening date somewhere around the beginning of the second week of January.

I peeked in the windows and looked around the canopy area where the picnic tables are. I liked the set up and the atmosphere (picnic tables inside and outside). This looks like a serious BBQ joint to me.

So it seems the wait for Burke's BBQ to open is about to be over!

We like Oakwood. Not for the interior beauty but for the nice sides (love the country cooked green beans and the sweet potatoes) and decent sweet barbecue ribs, always done to my liking.

Seriously, we've had both Oakwood and Woody's, and although we liked both our leanings are toward Oakwood. Was it because Oakwood was our first here in TV when it comes to ribs? Was it because we lived up north on a street named Oakwood for 26 years? I don't know, but I appreciate that fact that some like Oakwood and some like Woody's because simply put... it's nice to have choices and if eveyone only liked one place we wouldn't have the choice. And now we're going to have yet another choice with Burke's! It's all good! :icon_hungry:

I predict within a week of opening, that the restaurant basher's on TOTV will have a new thread "New BBQ place is terrible" , "New BBQ place never again".

I do hope they serve collards or some kind of greens. Growing up, my dad made us kids eat them (or you couldn't leave the table) and I swore I'd never have them as an adult. Now since moving south, greens are a new favorite. I'm sure my dad is laughing at me for saying that.

"Worse food I have ever eaten, place was filthy and the wait staff terrible ........ best food on the planet, place was spotlessly clean, the wait staff gave me a shoulder massage and carried me to the golf cart ..... everyone should just be ecstatically happy to be living in TV and never question anything.

and so goes anther addition of Restaurant Reviews on TOTV ;-) "

That is so funny and sooo true, LndLocked. Guess it's a good thing we all want and expect different results from restaurants or we'd all be sitting on each others laps!
