Hard water....

Just moved into Charlotte in July. Some of my neighbors have spent $3000 to $6000 on equiptment to take the hardness and chlorine out of the water. Is there a better more economical way to do this and is this needed? I've heard of a system that cost $500 that is electronic and works well.

We bought a Morton Water Softener and also a filter which traps the dirt particles. Google Morton Water Softener. I believe my husband purchased it at Wal-mart. We had the exact same one in our last home for 6 years and worked great. Cost to purchase was about $400.00 for all and had someone install it for us which cost about $150.00. water softner at HD or Lowes cost about 500 .00 dollars these people that come and try to convince you that the warter is bad are just theives. I have had a water boss for about three years and it is great cost about $500.00 at HD. The villages water is tested every year and u get a report in the mail. it has to meet state requirements

Agree but before you even do that see if you need it.

You may not have hard water, if not just get a whole home filter with carbon to remove chlorine < $200 and you r done and safe.

since all the water in TV comes from the same source how would the hardness be different in different areas?
Also not sure what you mean by safe?

Well I read here that different parts of TV have different water if I incorrect please explain.

By safe I mean filtering out junk particles, and removing chlorine.

Even if you get past the hardness issue, I have to say the water I've tasted in The Villages is absolutely undrinkable..The taste is just horrible..I'm from Florida and have tasted municipal water systems thoughout the state and this is by far the poorest tasting I've experienced..I drink only bottled water now and I'm forced to soak glasses in vinegar just to get them clean. I know they keep saying the water is "safe and pure" but the taste and quality certainly leave a lot to be desired.

I purchased a whirlpool whole house filter at Lowes about 3 years ago, $300.00, its electronic, flushs itself every week. The water is great and no clorine taste. Takes about an hour to install. It does require a power source.

Warning - do not use All About Water and Solar. We had them install a system in May, and they refuse our phone calls, and refuse to send us the info on the system, warranty, etc.

Florida is known for HARD water.... We got suckered in with Glazer Water.... They charged us $2500, then we found out our friends got the SAME thing for $1800... we called, said a few words, asked for them to remove it, we got a refund ck for the difference... 1 1/2 yrs later we needed service on it and discovered that the never put in the filter on our sink as in the contract... they came in did the service for free & put in the filter....the tank went bad (was a lemon) our water was like apple cider coming from the sinks.... the replaced it. Then we got a bill for $299.00 for the shipping!! We re-read the contract & all the information they gave us.. said nothing about a shipping charge, we then get a paper in the mail from them (after all this time) stating the charge... we contacted Crime vs seniors, they said we had to pay.... so we are making payments..... after all this, our friends tank went, they replaced it,AND WAS NEVER CHARGES A SHIPPING FEE! I have hear you are better off going to Home Depot or Lowes... you do not have to spend so much money!!

Sounds like the address. I wish I had looked that stuff up before we bought from them. They were out the day after we moved in and everything was so confusing I could not think straight. Lesson learned.

I must be missing something. I have no problem with the water. I use the drinking water out of the refrigerator filter. It's different than up north but I don't dislike it. As far as I could tell on the latest mineral readings provided by the water company all the tests were within acceptable range. No?
