Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa is considered one of the great American steakhouses....up there with Peter Lugar...a bit of a hike.
Mark's Prime Steakhouse on the square in Ocala is a Ruth Criss style . . pricey but excellent (been there). Marks Prime Steakhouse (http://www.marksprimesteakhouse.com/page/33-4311.htm)
I've never been there but I've heard from many TOTV that Jeffrey Paul's is very good Jeffrey Paul's Chophouse NOW OPEN! in Leesburg, Fl | (http://jeffreypauls.com/chop/)
Ipanema Brazilian steakhouse is also very good (been there)

Mark's Prime and Jeffrey Paul's are both pretty good but I would give an edge to Mark's. I believe Mark's is more along the lines of Morton's or Ruth Chris.
But if the one hour twenty minute
drive works for you then most definitely go to Tampa to experience Bern's. Fabulous restaurant.

I seem to remember a long time ago visiting the Villages to have a good steak dinner at one of the Country Clubs. I can't remember which one. I know it wasn't anything like Peter Lugers or Morton's, but it seemed like good quality for a good value. Does anything like that exist now in the Villages itself?

If you're all looking to find something like Peter Luger, it's just not going to happen. With all the great steakhouses in NY nothing compares to Peter Luger (IMO), so why set yourself up for disappointment.
I've been to Ipanema, I've always liked Rodizio because I like to "pick", but I'd classify their steak as "eh,okay".
Best filet mignon I've ever had was at a wedding in Chicago, even better than Luger.

We've been to Vic's Embers in Leesburg a couple of times and had excellent meals. One couple had the Filet and they raved about it. I had the prime rib twice and it was almost fork cut tender. Great way to spend an evening.

Cody's and Longhorn have tender prime ribs. In fact the prime rib I had at Longhorn's the last time was probably the best one I have had in a long time.

Where is Longhorn's located?
It's right off of Rolling Acres and 441. Five Guys, Best Buy and Bed, Bath and Beyond are in the same mall area.

dugg52,
The Texas Roadhouse in Gainesville. We live in Pa and had to check if they were in
Florida. They sent a beautiful answer back and directions. My husband loves their
salmon and baked sweet potato while I get filet.

OMGOSH!! There is a Texas Roadhouse close? We absolutely loved that restaurant in VA and keep putting on our Villages survey every year to pleasssse get them in here.
They would be a great addition to Brownwood and fits in with their theme....Thanks, we will have to get over to Gainesville now...!

Some wonderful Villagers invited us out to Vics. We had the chateaubriand meal for 2. They made the sauces and Fettucini right at the table. Super fresh and great service. There are a lot of good people around these parts. This is what makes some foods taste even better.

We enjoy the steaks at Nancy Lopez. We have been a few times, and each time we have enjoyed our meal, no complaints, and I am not really a big steak/beef eater either.
It is worth a try and it is close-by.
