Does anyone know where I can buy a rice bag - the kind you put in the microwave for 2 minutes and then use for an ache or a pain? I forgot mine.

Thank you.:cryin2:

I've always just put rice in a man's athletic sock and tied the top. Good for a very long time.

Always works for me. I store mine in the beer frig freezer compartment. Keeps the rice from going bad.

Yup...you can make them in a tube sock. You can also stitch the open end as well.

Okay, now I really feel dumb!!! I gather from the posts that a Rice Bag, is something to help with aches. Am I correct? How does one use this, and exactly what do you use it for? I really am amazed how much I learn from this site. Thanks in advance for educating me. Trish

You heat it quickly in the microwave and use it like you would a heating pad

Does storing it in the beer fridge make it work BETTER?

Again-thank you I never would have thought of that!

I like the rice bag better than a heating pad - more flexible and you don't have to be near an outlet!

And if you're not the DIY type, they sell the rice bags at Walgreen's & CVS & I think they also have them at Sweetbay. I have 2 that I bought here somewhere... the kind with the handles on the ends so I can hang them from a hook in the closet.

No one has mentioned when one goes to wear the sock the next time... the rice must be removed. :1rotfl:

Plus the phrase 'Sock it to me' takes on a new meaning!

Say, how long does the heat last and how hot does it get in 2 minutes in the microwave? Is there an optimum time?
How many times can it be used over and over? Seems the kernals would turn into hard BB's after a while of heating.
Do you add salt and pepper?

Just when I thought I knew everything this pops up! !@%@#$^#$%&$%^(

Hi capt John

Heat lasts over an hour. I usually cover with light towel and/or clothing too make sure it isn't too warm, but the rice moves and fits to shoulders backs legs etc. as you move it pieces in the middle come out that are still warm. When the heat isn't as intense as u want it just pop it in the oven for 2 minutes and you are good to go.

My daughter gave me one at least 5 years ago and I was bumbled when I arrived and it wasn't here. Now I will have at least one here and up north. My shoulder and neck feel better already after carrying a 3 month old for the past couple days - thought I was in shape - guess not

Depends...on how much rice is you your sock. How hot you want the r"heat pack" to be...the strength of your microwave. You can use it over and over until the rice goes rancid, but I've been using mine for over a year and the rice is still "nice". Rice is pretty dry to begin with, and I don't think there is much additional drying caused by warming the grains in a microwave. Salt and pepper? I think I'll toss the rice when I'm done with it...
