Saturday Grower's Market

We have gone to Paddock Square at Brownwood for the Grower's Market. It was well-done and had LOTS of customers. Could anyone tell me if this is now the only grower's market in Wildwood on Saturdays or if they also, still have one at Wildwood the town square. This newer one is fun...a great way to spend a Sat. morning by taking a cart-ride down. There is even a coffee stop amongst the vendors if you need a boost.

No market at the Wildwood square any more. All the vendors moved to Brownwood with higher prices.

One or two of the real locals appear to have dropped out. Rent is probably too high for the little guy.

I went this morning and IMO, not worth it and not enough vendors, although I did buy from the Prime Meat man. Back to Marion Market for us.

Went to Wildwood before the move and really like it in Brownwood. More vendors. Like to be able to go in my cart. Really don't see much difference in prices. Markets of Marion are good but when I figure gas to drive there as to Brownwood. Brownwood wins in my case. Just my opinion.

To be honest....the last few times I went to the market in actual Wildwood it seemed like some of the regulars were missing.

Now today at Paddock Square---I didn't think the prices were different from what I was seeing before at Wildwood. Still more reasonable than the grocery stores!! Also felt there were MORE vendors than at Wildwood. This market reminds me of the ones I've gone to, up north. Lots of folks mozying through and a nice ambiance as well. Marion Markets has their place but WAY too big sometimes and over-whelming!!

But how is the produce? Do they sell fresh herbs like lemon and/or garlic basil? I'm really not interested in breads, soaps, etc. but would love to find good, local produce that was truly picked that morning. Okay, I'm spoiled -- that's what we had in California and is one of the things I miss the most.

I went today. I asked about the sweet corn and was told that it came from Zellwood, not far from TV. The corn was delicious. Lots more fruit and vegetable vendors than in Wildwood. I think the prices were slightly higher than Marion Market but the proximity for me offsets the transportation costs.

We bought some sweet corn, 5 for 3.00 and some summer squash....3 for 2.00. It looked fresh and seemed to be reasonably priced. Sure it is no where as big as Markets of Marion but a much shorter drive and we got a chance to check out Brownwood. We will go back for more stuff next week! Haven't tried the corn or the squash yet so I cant say if it's good or not.

Marion market . I always wonder about those folks selling produce, sorting it out of boxes. Do they buy it at the wholesale market in Orlando........the produce that the supermarkets don't buy. Maybe that's why they have to throw a lot of it away.

We have no problems with the produce that we have bought at Brownwood over the last two Saturdays. I think my wife counted nine different produce vendors yesterday at Brownwood with a good variety of products. There is a young woman there who has a berry farm, I believe in Sumterville, and she has wonderful berries when they are in season. I think it would be worth it to at least take a look at this market.

Do not see that much of a price difference between Brownwood and Market of Marion, certainly not to spend the extra money on gas for what the amount of produce two of us consume.

Just had the corn and squash tonight. The corn was very good and the squash was ok. Thought it was a bit dry, probably picked a while ago??? Will go back next week for more goodies!

Wildwood is a GROWER'S market. Thus the produce you are seeing sold there is being sold by the people who actually grew it. Market's of Marion is a FLEA market and should be treated as such. Let's not mix apples and oranges..... lol

Use your common sense. It's not the growing season for tomato, pepper, etc. Local, yes, from the wholesale warehouse, the same place the vendors at Marion Market get thers.

past saturday some didn't have what they brought from the week before..i was told by several that the reason was just didn't get to orlando to pick up, however the french pastry chef (pink tent) does do his own baking
