I am trying to date an old photograph. Can anyone ID the automobile in it?

Better guess if I could see the front, but from this view, maybe about a 1947 or 1948 Plymouth.

this website may help:
Identifying 1946 to 1953 American Automobiles - Donate Car - Do It Yourself Hot Rod Kustom Website (http://www.cadvision.com/blanchas/ID-Cars/index.html)
but, it'll take some studying on your part.

Doesn't look as fancy as the 47's; I would say a '42 Chevy.

My father had a car that looked like that, I think it was a Nash Rambler, at least that's what he called it.

:agree: My Grandfather had one (Chevy) that looked almost exactly like that. May have been as early as 1939. I'll see if I can find the picture of his. It's here somewhere.

I have a 41 Ford and would guess this to perhaps be a 46.

This is my vote: 1946 Chevy Fleetmaster
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/staging/carlist/items/Fullsize/Cars/21331/21331_Rear_3-4.jpg
From 1946 CHEVROLET FLEETMASTER Lot 1208 | Barrett-Jackson Auction Company (http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=1208&aid=51)
The gas fill is on the proper side. The upper beltline brightwork is in the right place. Etc., etc., etc. The only piece that doesn't sync up is the bumper corner - it looks a bit different.

The front fender doesn't match and the rear window/trunk seems to be a bit different.
Just looked at a pic of a '42 Chevy and it has a simliar front fender as the '47 - neither match the OP's pic.
It looks like a '41 Chevy: http://www.1941chevrolet.com/41chevy9.JPG

I agree. My grandfather had one in pea green and when it wore out he bought another one, same year, same color.
