Tonight I had the most wonderful musical experience of my entire life. We heard the chorale group of 140 people called The Village Voices under the direction of Dr. Sandra Willetts at Church on the Square
I have never heard anything more beautiful. At times the group was accompanied by violins, piano, organ and some brass instruments but the perfect blending of all of those beautiful voices and the wonderful selections of music from classics to show tunes to even the most amazing group of spirituals was beyond anything these 72 year old ears had ever experienced.
At the last, a new soprano from Atlanta with an incredible voice had people leaping to give her and the group and it's leader a standing ovation. I found my own face wet with tears.
In this wonderful place in that wonderful church with amazing sound quality I heard these astonishingly talented singers whose average age is 70 and my heart just soared.
As I sat transfixed in the semi darkness I could feel the music move the attentive and appreciative audience. It was a beautiful and unforgettable night.

I heard Village Voices Saturday night and they were fantastic. My wife and I have been attending their concerts since we first came to TV. We have a good friend who has been singing with them the last five years. The talent of its members is absolutely as good as any in the country. Dr. Sandra Willetts, conductor and Dr. John Lowe, Jr. On Organ and Piano are super talent. If you love music, you got to go hear Village Voices.

I have not heard this wonderful choir live but I listened to them on YouTube singing several diffferent pieces including Christmas favorites. They are indeed wonderful! Does anyone know if they have try-outs? If so, when and how often? I'd appreciate any information.

Dr. Willetts told the audience that the auditions are in August every year.

Dr. Willetts commented during the performance that they auditioned 45 applicants and only selected 11 to join the chorus, one of whom was the fantastic soprano who sang one of the spirituals.
I get the impression that a large number of members of The Village Voices have significant prior experience and even academic training in music and choral performance.

I have listened to them on youtube and I can only wonder how much better they are in person.
It would probably move me to tears as I really appreciate great singing.

They will be having a Christmas concert, look for it in the Daily Sun. It is a free concert you do not want to miss.

They will be having a Christmas concert, look for it in the Daily Sun. It is a free concert you do not want to miss. You have to get to the Church on the Square early for the Christmas Concert...very early. There will be a line forming for admission at least an hour before the performance. Chances are a lot of people at the end of the line will be turned away.
I wish they'd sell the tickets for that concert. I hate standing in lines...it's an old Army thing!
