Garage Door glitch

In the first days we had moved in, the garage door was going up and down by itself. We actually thought each other were leaving it up or putting it down and were too tired to remember :) Then it actually came down on the back of my car as I was backing out leaving a small scratched area on one of the runners and leaving a bent piece of metal that runs along the bottom of the garage door. We called the company and they came out and told us they thought the issue was that they had coded it the same as someone else nearby. So they changed the code. It worked.

Unfortunately, they have a policy that they are not responsible for anything that is moving that comes into contact with the door. We explained that that would hold true if someone backed into the garage door inadvertently but, in this case, it was their moving object that was at fault. They have offered to replace the metal but we would need to pay for it. Ridiculous.

So the moral of the story: If you see the that the garage door is going on its own, call the company ...actually call warranty immediately. Get it handled before you have a larger problem.

Did you call warranty and were you able to get any satisfaction from them? I woud think that as a new homeowner you would have some recourse!

Unfortunately when it happened, we didn't have it on the "list". I did call them and they called the builder who called the garage company. The builder basically said he could get me a good price...that was as far as he could go. I will call warranty again. But I am really posting so anyone else who sees a problem with the garage door gets on it immediately with warranty so they don't get the shuffle later.

There is a Warranty Department that handles all warranty claims. Any claims a filed through them. It is a one stop service. You don't have to deal with individual contractors, sub contractors or vendors.

I guess you could say it is a "Village thing". It is a very efficient method of handling claims (IMHO).

It is a 1 year warranty on new homes. You must have purchased a previously owned home.

What company installed it??

My garage door remote was opening my door along with my neighbor. Make it worse, the doors got out of sync, mine would close, theirs would open. Ro-Mac came in and reprogrammed our opener and cleared it up.

Yes romac will come to reprogram but in our case the door came down on top of the car as I was driving out! And they don't want to fix a small metal strip on the bottom of the oor because they have a policy they don't fix things that come in contact with a moving object. They miss the point that they hit me not the other way around.

Our garage door did the same thing, opening and closing at will. The garage door company came out and changed the code and the problem ended.
