Any one in the Villages volunteer at a local dog shelter? Is there a good one nearby (meaning no-kill) shelter? I used to volunteer for one in St. Louis and I really miss it. Appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.

All Creatures Sanctuary in Ocklawaha is a wonderful place, there are Villagers who volunteer there. You can google it and find out more info; it is a place where animals in crisis go, truly great.

There is the Marion County SPCA if you head north on 441. There are also many rescue groups who need people to foster dogs in your home if you are up for that (Maxine's Pet Connection) The Sumter County SPCA does not have a kennel, only foster homes for pets. You can also volunteer with them in other ways.

Every Monday the newspaper lists a bunch of places that are looking for volunteers. There are always a few animal shelters on the list.
