Any bad experiences? I've heard very good quality.
Wondering the cost of taxes and fees each month.
Just learned Costco will be selling the latest unit around Thanksgiving for $99. (online only) Lowest price yet.

A home run for me. The taxes are under $5. I get great reception and have no complaints. Long distance, call waiting, caller ID and voice mail. Go for it.

Love our Ooma. No fees, no taxes, no problems. Well, sometimes we have problems when talking to someone who has Vonage, seems to cut us off after about 30 minutes. We just call back and we're good for another 30 minutes ! Don't know if it's a Vonage or Ooma problem. That small issue is ok with us.

We have had OOma for about a year. It works well. Sometimes we get a blip from Comcast (our isp) and it reboots but that's about it. When we went to NY for the summer we took along the box and plugged it in up there so our Florida number went with us. Our isp in NY is more reliable so we didn't get the occasional rebooting blips we get from Comcast. I sprung for the wireless transmitter so I could put my phone base somewhere besides near my modem. Makes it easier for me to check the messages. That works very well too. They also offer a premier package which I think is another $10 per month. It offers a lot of other bells and whistles but I declined that. The basic service is fine for us.

If you have an iPad or iPod touch and you only need to make outgoing calls you can use an app called talkatone. You make calls from your iPad not a phone and its free! Saves on your cell minutes. I thought about getting magic jack or ooma but all I really care about is making outgoing calls. You do have to have Internet service. Check it out at talkatone.com

We have had an OOMA on our CenturyLink internet service for a year.

Absolutely no problems.

After the initial purchase, taxes are the only charge and they are never more than $5.00 per month.

I have had Magic Jack for almost a year now.
Works well for phone calls both in and out.
Haven't yet set up a fax with it and heard some fax machines might not work.
Total purchase cost for 5 years keeping my (352) phone number comes to about $3.50 per month.

I have both, Magic Jack and Ooma. I have now installed Ooma in VA, in FL, and two rental homes. I don't use Magic Jack anymore because Ooma is so much better.

Is ooma always online, using up gigabites, or only when making or receiving a call? I take it that ooma works in conjunction
with your cell phone, is that correct?

We use and like Vonage because of the free overseas calls.

Great to talk to our daughter and family in Australia!

Do any of the services discussed on this thread permit overseas calls?

Almost forgot, another benefit of Vonage and possibly these services is that we are unlisted in the phone book (ordinarily you have to pay extra for that) and we never get sales or political calls.

Ooma works as a VOIP on your internet, not with your cell phone.

Overseas calls on Ooma are so cheap that it still is much less then Vonage. I added $25 to my overseas account two years ago, call Europe and Asia quite often and still have about $11 left. Go to Ooma.com and check overseas rates. They run about 1 to 4 cents per minute. Australia is just under 4 of a cent per minute. If you call a lot you can buy 1000 minutes a month for $9.99 to any country. That is just 1 cent a minute.

I know the OOMA connections are the router and the phone, but how is the hookup possible when the cable jack where I have my modem and wireless router and the telephone jack are on opposing sides of the room? What if the base unit for the phone is in another room? I am confused about this.

You don't really need a phone jack if you have a wireless phone with a base unit and 2 or 3 remote hand sets. Just plug your OOMA unit between the Cable modem and your wireless router. Then plug your base unit into the OOMA box. Place your remote handsets where you want them and your good to caall anywhere.

My ooma is about three years old. I bought it when it was the only service that would without a PC running. It has been he best service I have ever had. When I am away I get an e-mail on my lap top that I have a Voice Mail. Then I can go to my.ooma.com and listen to the v-mail.
Never more than $5.00/mo.
Very reliable.

I believe that is the correct term. AT&T, Uniden, Motorola, and a few others make them. They come with a base station and handset, and usually 3 or 4 other handsets that sit in a charger. The base station needs to be pluged into the Ooma box and the other handsets someplace else in the house. With this set up, traditional through the wall phone jacks are not used.
