I have a question, on the day I close on my home, it is a new build, can I have mail sent immediately to my mail box? do I have to do anything else? I did put in my forwarding address to the post office online to be effective day after closing, that was easy. I ordered something online and am having it sent to my new address and in the tracking of it , it is arriving on the day of my closing. Do they give you the mail box keys at closing? and is anything else necessary to notify the post box where I will receive my mail, I will live in Charlotte. How are packages received routed thru the post office? If it won't fit in the post box?

We went from closing to our new home and stopped by the mail box just to locate it. There was junk mail in it. I would think any mail addressed to the address would go to your box even pre closing. If a package will not fit in the box they put a key in the box and the key opens a large numbered box on the side of the mail station.

We asked for our mailbox keys before closing on our new home since we were here a week before. There was no problem getting it early for us.

Normally you get your mailbox key at closing, along with your gate passes and your Villages ID.

We had our keys now for two month right after you put your downpayment
you can get the keys .
Now as for the gate passes and Villages ID you don't get it till closing
Our closing is December 7

We sold our home in MA and came down here during the building process. We were renting and our salesman gave us our mailbox keys right away so that we were able to forward our mail right away from our previous home and also so that we could open a checking account with our new address on the checks.

Worked out well for us. :)
