Leave behind what you don't need. An extra 100 lbs. in your car reduces fuel economy by up to 2%. That would equate to $1.00 on a $50.00 fill-up.
Hint: If you're not playing golf, don't haul your golf clubs in your trunk. No anvils, either.
Another tip: Don't leave your car idling. It can use up to a half gallon of fuel per hour.

I have a friend who used to brag about driving "only" 10 miles to save 5 cents per gallon on a fill-up (15 gallons would equate to saving 75 cents).
I guess he wasn't taking into consideration the time/cost of the trip.
In other words, he didn't "net" his gas-buying experience.
Oh, by the way...I don't remember if he removed the anvils from his trunk for his round-trip gas-buying adventures <g>.

I try to tell my dear spouse about all the gas we could save if she didn't insist I go shopping with her. I certainly weigh more than an anvil! She doesn't buy it, though.
