View Full Version : Golfing at Pelican or Heron Golf Courses

I apologize if this question has been posed previously; I didn't see it when I searched.

My DH returned late this afternoon from his 9 hole round of golf, which he thoroughly enjoyed BTW, at Pelican. He asked if I had any thoughts on why the golf cart parking lot for the Heron/Pelican golf courses is unpaved and left dirty and dusty. Thought I might ask the powers-that-be that exact question but whom should I contact for this information?

Then again, perhaps someone on this forum already has the answer and will share it with me.

The parking lot.

Sorry, Chuckster, I think in terms of the course and the lot. I've corrected the original post to read "golf cart parking lot". We think all of the other Villages courses have paved lots and we can't think of another one with this dusty, dirty parking area.

I've parked there many times and never noticed it wasn't paved. I guess it was not any issue to me. Is the dirt somehow getting on your car or something? Or are you just curious as to why this one is different?

Russ, I should have specifically said "the golf cart parking area or lot" is not paved. Yes, its dirty whether dry or wet and more so if you're standing in the area when the carts come in to park. One ends up with a dirty cart, floor in the cart, shoes, a nice inhale of dust when it's dry. It's not a deal breaker for golfing those two great courses but it is unusual for The Villages to leave it that way.

Just thinking out loud if a dirt parking lot is an issue.
How would one deal with sand bunkers and driving thorough the waste areas at
Turtle Mound ?

I don't know why it is not paved, but it may have something to do with the fact that the courses are built around an environmentally sensitive area. I know when playing Pelican, my ball seems to end up in a lot of environmentally sensitive areas.

If you can stand a walk of a couple hundred feet, you can park your cart in the paved auto lot where there is no dust, dirt, or any other awful stuff.

Drive a few miles east of TV and you will find that many of the streets are made of sand.

My goodness, such snarky replies and Bogie, I think yours is one of the snarkiest and I had always had respect for your opinions and thoughts. If you noticed in my posting, I said it was no deal breaker, we love those golf courses and were just curious and to why that golf cart lot wasn't paved. My husband, the dedicated golfer in our family, almost always walks the courses and did again yesterday. We were having a discussion about the golf cart lot when he returned. I told him I would ask on TOTV if anyone knew why it wasn't paved, there are so many informed people on that site and we would probably have an answer shortly. (DH does not follow TOTV.) I showed him the responses I got from this forum and he asked me why I would follow TOTV, what a hostile group!

Eweissenbach, thank you for your civil, thoughtful response... you probably have the answer in your post. And the touch of humor was appreciated.

I think there is a "magnet" in my golf ball...and the environmentally sensitive areas.

Thanks - thought I was losing my mind for a minute. Yes the car park is paved but the cart park is not. I like the idea that was floated that this particular executive pair is very highly sensitive environmentally.

They never said it was a big deal.....they were just wondering. So cynical!

I agree it is due to the natural sensitivity of the area. In my opinion the adjective "dirty" is not at all appropriate.....sandy yes.....dirty? Hardly!!!! The area for the golf carts fits the natural surroundings.

If you feel the cart parking area is dirty.....how would one categorize the sand traps and bunkers? Just as dirty? Natural? Other:D
