This is from an article on Golf Talk Central by Ryan lavner. "Citing a “tremendous spike in usage” and “growing advocacy” among pros and instructors, golf’s governing bodies announced Wednesday that they have proposed a ban on anchored putting that would become effective January 2016.

“We’re not doing this because we said (anchoring) is a great advantage,” U.S. Golf Association executive director Mike Davis told Golf Channel. “It may be advantageous for some, but this is fundamentally about what we think is the right thing for the game.

“Rules changes are about the future of the game, and we really do fundamentally think that defining a stroke is the right thing for the future.”

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Rule 14-1b is expected to be finalized this spring, after a 90-day window that will allow industry insiders to address any lingering concerns. But the new rule won’t go into effect until Jan. 1, 2016, when the next edition of the Rules of Golf is published".

I haven't ever seen one. Are the ones sold in The Village shorter than a regular putter so they will fit? :1rotfl:

The conventional putter is held with just your hands and is approximately
32 - 26 inches long.

With the belly putter the butt end is anchored into your stomach - larger than the regular putter - 41 - 44 inches long.

The tallest putter is held to your chest as you are standing fairly tall. This is approximately 48 - 52 inches long.

They are not banning the putters per se. They are defining how you may make a stroke. The club may not be directly "anchored" to any part of the body other than the hands.
The hands or forearms may not be anchored to the body while a stroke is being made.
You will be able to use a belly putter in the way that Matt Kuchar does, anchoring the grip to your forearm.

You will be able to take a long putter and hold the top in one hand while swinging it with the other hand as long as your forearm is not firmly in contact with your body.

I support the ban. I think we were one step from having a bracket strapped to our body to hold the putter in place like a hinge. Keep in mind, as an armature and not playing in a tournament, you can continue to use the belly or long putter. Here in the Villages, we break more rules than we follow, but the pro's should follow the intent of the original game of golf.
