Dirtier and dustier than many places we have lived!?!?

We find that there is way more (very technical qualification) dirt and dust in the air and hence deposited on the lanai and screened in areas. Very black looking when hosing it down. Dusting and wiping the furniture on the lanai is a daily job.

The amount of dust in the house seems significantly more as well.

We sorta figured as the construction moved further South away from us it would lighten up. That has not happened. So I can't blame it on the construction. I guess there is just more road traffic in and around TV than any other place we have lived and is most likely the reason.

We live near the Arnold Palmer CC so just South of 466 and a long, LONG way from construction.

What is your experience?

We find the same thing in Pennecamp. My dog has allergies (pink feet) and the vet said that FL is so flat she could be allergic to things blowing in from 25 miles away. Guess its logical that we are still seeing dust/dirt flying into us from the constructions sites and will be til buildout.

Just south of Palmer and since the construction has moved south, it is much better.

btk: I agree. It is an uphill batle cleaning the lanai and birdcage. I can't get my wife to move on closing in the lanai because she likes the openness. I suppose i am going to have to delgate cleaning the lanai to her and see if that will change her mind. I agree with your speculation as to why this is occuring.

To a point, "it's Florida" the way we look at it. We've been down to various parts of the state numerous times over the years with motorcycles and have noticed the "black dirt and dust" that seems to accumulate on them. More visible to us since the bikes have been black. Doesn't seem specific to TV though I'm sure it's more prevalent near the construction areas. It doesn't really seem to matter what part of the state we've been in, it's there. Also noticeable in the wash bucket when cleaning up the bike......or a car, for that matter.

I think it's from the sand.

My sister and I talked about the extreme dust here in The Villages months ago. We lived in Deland (about 1 1/2 hours away) and only had about half the dust and dirt we have here. We moved here about 16 months ago. Don't know why but we love it here, so dusting more often is what we do. Glad others have noticed.

Back in our home area of the north...I used to have to hose down our porch, deck and siding on a regular basis. They all seemed to have a layer of dirt (dust) on a regular basis. THAT with leaves etc.

Here, some of the same but we also contend with mold here as well so wondering if on our lanai's at least, that isn't part of the issue. I don't think there's anymore house dust than we've had in other parts of the country. Just depends on how often we open the house up etc.

I live in Hemingway, so at first I thought it was the new construction across 466a but now I don't think that is the main reason. We have dark wood furniture and I dust my furniture everyday!!!! It's certainly frustrating but it's a small price to pay for living in Paradise.

I've commented on this many times and we live just south of 466. It got so bad that we enclosed our lanai. The dirt has a black greasy quality to it on the lanai and inside it's dusty. We lived directly on the ocean in Florida before moving here and the salt air was a killer, it rusted everything including the electronics in our home so this isn't as bad.

We have lived in the flat, barren Texas panhandle with 30 mph wind being a breeze. Now THAT was dust...red dust. Florida is windy and even though you may not live near the construction there are 100's of acres of bare sandy land being developed. Yes, it will blow into your lanai and everywhere else even if you are a few miles away. When construction is complete (if ever) we will see much less dust.

Additional thought: We are now in the dry season and some non-groomed areas are a little parched. Tends to make things dustier when the winds blow and since we are so flat here in Florida, I would imagine it can travel quite far.

We live in Sanibel and there is less dust & dirt since our immediate area is now built out. But to some degree, I believe it's the nature of the beast. We had pretty much the same in our other Florida houses.

We live in Sanibel and I have noticed the same thing. We moved from Miami and I don't experience having this much dust. I still think it is caused by mass construction going on.

Living up on the north end of TV, we've noticed a steady reduction in dust and dirt inside and outside our home. We never thought about the fact that construction was moving farther away.
