View Full Version : It's driving us crazy

My wife and I just returned from a cruise. We noticed when we returned that there is a persistent noise in the kitchen that goes off about every 15 seconds. It sounds like the noise that the microwave makes when the "food is ready". Depending on where we stand in the kitchen the noise seems to move around from one side to the other. I believe this is because the volume is not consistent from beep to beep. So to find out what was making this noise I unplugged various stuff in the kitchen (except for the refrigerator and oven), I opened all the cabinets to see whether I could hear something in each one, opened up all the drawers to see what might be causing this sound. I thought it might be an old watch in the kitchen but that wasn't it. I don't know what else to do and am hoping that someone on this board may have a suggestion or has been thru this same thing. However, to be honest, I am not optimistic.

Thanx

John

Is it the low battery warning in a smoke alarm going off?

Might be a smoke detector battery that needs to be changed.

Our dishwasher does this sometimes when you push too many buttons on its start-up.

Changing the battery in the smoke alarm(s) should fix the problem

If you have natural gas service in your home, it could also be the CO detector with a low battery.

Thanx for the suggestions. We don't have a smoke alarm or co detector in the kitchen so that couldn't be the problem. We did leave dishes in the dishwasher when we left and stopped the washing prematurely. Maybe we should try to do another load and see what happens.

My dishwasher does this when it's empty and clean and hasn't been opened

Your freezer door may not be completely closed?

My refrigerator did that. They had to replace the computer panel on the front to get it to stop.

my dishwasher makes that noise when I stop it in mid-cycle and close the door. It's a very soft beep that will drive you crazy if you don't know what it is (found out the hard way!)

Trish - That's exactly what it was. Thanx to all on the board. This place is fantastic.

Isn't it amazing how those little beeps and tones seem to move around when you're trying to locate the source.

I bet $1,000,000 it's the dishwasher! It doesn't like it's cycle to be upset! Check the manual on how to reset it...running it again may not fix the problem!

We had the same problem. I turned off breakers one at a time until I found it. It was the dishwasher.

Check the smoke detectors. The sound travels which is the intent.

We had the same problem. We changed smoke detector batteries several times. It turned out to be the cordless phone's battery.

This is, by far, the funniest thread I have read recently. Please keep giving suggestions and CHANGE THE BATTERIES IN THE SMOKE DETECTOR(S)!!!!
