Avoiding junk food, being engaged with the news, minding your own business, honesty, reading, gardening, surrounding yourself with flowers...many good lessons from this former school teacher who thought her 80's were her best years!
Thanks for sharing this inspiring story!

I'm more interested in how I live than how long I live. If I can accomplish both quality and quantity of life than so much the better

Quantity of life is important if you can maintain quality.

No quality of life stinks as I have witnessed with several family members who lived into their ninties with very little quality.

My mom used to say, the 70's were great, the 80's were good, the 90's stink.
Hopefully I get to the nineties and see for myself firsthand.

My wife and I discussed this over breakfast. She lived in Georgia where there seem to be lots that live to a very old age. In Georgia, they love eating lots of vegetables, but also love fried foods and biscuits with greasy gravy. Not much olive or canola oil used there. They like their catfish, but also fried. Maybe it's the grits they eat?
I tend to think it's the genes they inherited. Some people live to be over 100 and smoke all their life.
