Maybe I missed it ... but did anyone in see anything in the closing documents that we all signed saying that we would have entertainment at the Town Squares and free execuitive golf for life? If it's not in writing there is always an "out".
With the sale of the entertainment department it just causes me to wonder .. Will I.? as a fairly new Villager.. still have the lifestyle that was sold to me in 25 years??
The promise of free exec golf and free entertainment nightly at the squares?
I know the developer initally created the aura and the feel of the villages.. along with the .. stores etc.. but what do we as property owners and residents have to say about what stays? ie parades , entertainment .. golf etc..
Just another thought also: Why do we have people who do not live in the Villages making decisions for those who live in the Villages? example District Manager Ms. Tutt ? ???
Please correct me if I missed something in the documents but I'm just trying to get a grip on what I stand to loose in the future. Thanks

I am looking to buy in TV too soon. I've been wondering the same thing if TV will stay the same in future years

If anyone has lived the exact same life for the past 25 years, without any changes, please raise your hand.

The Villages has a lot more to offer now than when they started years ago. Enjoy this wonderful place and get involved in volunteer activities in The Villages. Each one of us can make it even better.
Now Repeat after me:
The food is less expensive than up north.
The weather is better than up north.
The traffic is better than up north.
The state tax rate is better than up north.
The crime rate is better than up north.
WE ALL HAVE MORE TIME TO COMPLAIN THAN WHEN WE WERE WORKING UP NORTH AND THAT IS THE REASON FOR SOME FOLKS GRUMPINESS.
Get involved and you will have less time to worry and complain.

Please add 25 to your present age.
Enjoy THIS day because this is NOT a dress rehearsal.
When we bought our snowbird home five years ago, we heard all this gloom and doom.
We love it more here every day.
I am a real, not anonymous person, who comes to Crispers and invites people over to my home.
A LOT of negative folks who post on here represent other entities. And a few do not. They are just worriers.
Don't worry. Be happy.
Christmas is coming!!!!

Worrying about things unknown or uncontrollable are a waste of time..........go play free golf; while you can.

Promises like this aren't put into purchase agreements. There is so much to do on your own without expecting someone to provide it. I don't live there (yet!) but the idea of entertainment every night was a cool thought but I think it would get somewhat tiring anyway. I'm having a great life here in Michigan but there is no entertainment comittee to make sure I'm having fun. I'm sure things are going to change, they always do...but we are going to change also.

Twenty five years from now, I will be hoping my get up and go has not get-up and gone.
It’s important for residents of TV to understand that since the roads in TV are maintained by the county(s) they are open to the public. As such, it would be inappropriate for any activities on or around them (parades, live entertainment etc.) to be funded by your amenity fees. These activities have been supported by the retailers and restaurants in TV.
The amenities (exec golf, rec centers, pools, sport facilities etc.) are private for the exclusive use of TV residents and are maintained with your amenity fees. Any concerns you have for the future of these facilities are probably best addressed with the Amenity Authority Committee which is a resident elected committee which provides recommendations to the VCCDD on the use of amenity funds.

Very legitimate concern. Of course you are told"Just enjoy, don't worry." The problem is some us are well under 60-65 and see this as a place we will easily be for 25 years(God willing). The OP has a concern about a lifestyle. I constantly read on this board that we are buying a lifestyle. Well........if there is a possibility of that "lifestyle" to change, that's a concern. How about this, I would vote to end Social Security tomorrow, would it change your "lifestyle?" Would you be concerned if that was a true possibilty?

IN 25 years.
This place is SUPPOSED to be for the 55+ . So for 55 year olds they would be 80 and for 60 year olds they would be 85 and for 65 year olds they would be 90.
And for the sake of discussion. What is your opinion of the average age of folks here in The Villages?
And NO ONE can guarantee anything. Who would think just ten years ago that our homes in other parts of the country would be devalued?
I don't understand the intent of your saying " If I would vote to end Social Security tomorrow, would it change your lifestyle". I am not sure what you mean by that.
You or me cannot influence whether this place will change in the next quarter century. This is a CDD form of government. We have absolutely NO input...so why get your knickers in a hitch? If the Morses would sell out and shut it all down... we would be living here in the middle of Florida with no free golf, no nice rec centers, but with the sunshine and MOSTLY nice people.
There are NO guarantees to ANYTHING.
So why worry. Live this day. But always save some money.
And HOW OLD are you????
OH now I remember who you are. You are the person who works at one of the nearby schools and whose son graduated from the charter school last year.

48 years old and may be here for 25 years, may be here for 25 months. I guess I was being snarky because it seems if someone brings up a legitimate concern, the answer is that we shouldn't worry.

I don't worry about things that I can't change and since I have purchased, moved and plan to stay in TV I don't worry about what may or may not change. I can see why it could be a concern for those that are thinking about moving here or who may be planning on living here for a few years and then moving elsewhere. I feel like I paid a premium for my home in TV and that premium was for the lifestyle. So if that lifestyle changes drastically future purchasers may not be willing to pay that premium and that of course hurts anyone that wants to sell the home they own in TV

Janet Tutt is a highly qualified administrator hired by the VCDD's. A lot of people who "work for us" are not residents.
Ms. Tutt is doing a very commendable job, IMHO.

I think the free golf will always be here on the executive courses. Part of your amenities fee goes to build executive courses. If you look at where those fees are spent, 65% of the amenities fee is for debt retirement on golf and rec. centers. Entertainment will always be here but i suspect instead of uncle bob, cactus jack, rocky, you will have more djay.

I guess it depends on where you come from. Food is more expensive here than upstate NY; traffic is greater here than upstate ny; crime rate is about the same. I agree the taxes are less here. Of course we have much less land too.

Many people bought in The Villages because the place was advertised as having free golf. If that were to change, of course it would be concern. A person who is considering buying in The Villages for the free golf is being a good consumer by asking questions like that. I imagine if that were to be taken away, there would be a huge lawsuit.

Where in upstate New York could you find a community of about 88,000 residents with a crime rate about that of The Villages? The crime rate in The Villages is almost non-existent.
Of course, there are the residents who "are ready for anything." I honestly was talking to one new resident (about 2 months in The Villages) and he sleeps with a loaded handgun on his night table next to the bed. He is seriously considering getting a special mattress that has a built-in holster on the side of the mattress. I would hate to live life that scared, wouldn't you?

Since golf and rec centers are maintained by amenity fees, I don't see them disappearing. Even today, most events at the rec centers have fees. We all pay for the rec centers; those participating in an activity pay for that entertainment. There is very little, if anything, truly free in TV, including the "free" golf. The entertainment is paid for by the businesses surrounding the squares. Since a lot of their business is derived from this entertainment, I can't see it totally disappearing. It may be that the entertainment in the squares will ultimately be nothing but DJs and possibly only on market nights at each square.
As disappointing as not having parades in the squares any more, the celebration of events will continue (at least for now) from what I understand. So, the squares will still have the food stations, the clowns, cheerleaders doing their routines, etc. There just won't be the parades but I'm sure people will still decorate their golf carts appropriately.

I am hoping I never see the day that we don't have at least 1 band playing every night. DJ and karoake singers with boxed music are FANTASTIC, but not my thing. I don't golf......I paint, swim and dance to Rocky, Uncle Bobs, Cactus, Musicology, etc.....a dj? I have my own stereo. KBs tonight!!! To each his own, but for right now, and for the past 8 years, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else!

Janet Tutt is an employee, currently working for the developers of The Villages. I would imagine that her position would be akin to that of a town manager. In the future, after the developer turns things over to us....is that going to happen, then what sort of government/administration will there be. Or is nothing in place and then there is anarchy?
