What is the youngest age for a child to play golf? Also if the child does not play golf and wants to ride along, is that allowed? Thanks for your help.

Nothing is more satisfying than having your grandchildren play a round with us when they visit. Good way to teach etiquette as well. If we have a full course we try to move along without impeding others.

I am sure you watch them carefully too and tell them where to stand that is safe.

We played with a man and his son and young grandson who was not playing and the child was on the tee with us in an area I would call unsafe.

We did everything in our power to be patient, kind and polite but it was stressful.

No one got hurt.

And I imagine the young man loved sharing the time with his dad and granddad.

It was great to see our 7 year grandson par the first 2 holes at Turtle Mound his first time here this summer. We played golf for 14 days, he had a great time and so did we. Can't wait until next year.

Must have been pretty good if he pared the first two holes!

While at lessons at Palmer, they certified him. He had taken lessons up north and played with his dad on championship from the 150 yard marker in.

I wish i had a nice swing like him.

Having a pro cert the kids is not a big deal, would never take one of our grand children on a course if they didn't know the rules. Our grand daughter has been playing since 7years old. The last six rounds she played was with a pro, she enjoyed playing with him as a partner and the helpful tips he gave her, as most young children their bad habits are few and drives are at 100yds or better, there was only one bad encounter, when they paired with two older gentlemen who were both angry she was playing she told them she would play from their tees and pick up if she slowed them down..by fourth hole she had kept up with their drives sometimes surpassing them. asked at the fifth if they would like to play for a quarter a hole, they turned her down, but never had a bad thing to say about her age or gender after that

It is nice to see and hear about parents' and grandparents involved in their young one's lives with activities as wholesome and fun as golf. Keep up the good work. I saw a poster years ago that has stuck with me. It was a photo of a little kid taken underwater. The child was obviously swimming and having a good time. The poster said, "Kids can't smoke pot underwater." To me, it is the same thing as swinging a golf club. Good job grandparents.
