What sort of repairs are required on birdcages? Are they damaged by high winds and flying debris (weak hurricanes, thunderstorms, etc.)?

We have a 960 square ft cover over our pool that was built in 1996.
We recently had all the screen replaced because it was starting to sag and rip.
As far as I know that was the only repair done in 16 years.

Our cage screens seemed to start ripping after about 8 years and then it was a few different panels every year. Our cage had south and west exposures so was in the sun almost all day long. We also had problems in a few corners where the birds pecked holes in the screens, apparently going after the little lizards.
Our neighbor had problems with palms ripping screens especially when blowing around during wind storms until he cut them down and replanted away from the cage. A friend in a "tree area" who had a built-in summer kitchen has squirrel problems unless they clean up everything carefully after use.
But, with all the problems,we think you still can't beat a good bird cage. That's what Florida living is all about.

Had one screen replaced recently when we found it had torn lose along one side (do not know what caused it). That was the first issue we have had in 4 1/2yrs. Repair company had a minimum charge of $40 to replace that screen.
