View Full Version : Web Cam at LSL needs to be aimed better

I have noticed for the past couple of days that the web cam at LSL is not showing the square where the dancers are, but rather is showing a few parking spaces and one of the refreshment stands.
Anyone know how to put a bug in the ear of the camera people to get them to focus the camera again on the square at LSL showing the dancers? Watching the web cams is my only way to "see" the squares until I get back to TV hopefully in 2013.
And I wonder when there will be a web cam at Brownwood?

And I wonder when there will be a web cam at Brownwood?
I have been to Brownwood a number of times and I always look around to see if there is a security camera (similar to those at SS and LSL) in place and I have yet to see any. There are a number of good locations where one or more can be placed but nothing yet.
I will have to do some searching on the IP addresses to see if anything is going on there. I have that on my desktop back up north but don't have that link on my lap top. Oh joy.

Is this that important?????
Is this that important?????
Not really, but it is fun to see what's happening at each square, at least seeing what's going on within the camera's range...:)
I use the webcams to watch the weather. I live fairly close to LSL ...can follow storms as they arrive at one square, then the other.....and if the direction is right, follow the storm from LSL and know it will be at my house in just a minute or so. Kind of cool, actually.

I'm interested in the web cams. I use them when I'm away from the Villages...like keeing in touch with home.
The webcam being mentioned has been moved and now points at a few cars and a sidewalk. Was much better before it was moved the other day.
Maybe not "that important" but "interesting"!!!!!!

It may be "that important" to wanna-bees who are trying to "keep the dream alive" until they can get there!

Link for LSL CAMERA does not show any picture . Broken?Perhaps this will work better for you:
Lake Sumter Landing Market Square, The Villages (http://www.thevillages.com/lifestyle/cam_lsl.asp)
Spanish Springs Town Square, The Villages (http://www.thevillages.com/lifestyle/cam_ss.asp)
BTW, I just checked and apparently the LSL cam has been adjusted where you can now see the area where people dance! ...and drink? :beer3:

After some adjusting the past few weeks it looks like the camera is focused on a perfect spot at LSL. It seems to be zoomed in a little closer and you can still see the grandstand and clock. I am wondering when the new Brownwood camera will be operatonal. I can't think of a better way to market and promote this new area.

Here is a secret link to get to the webcams. Go to thevillages.com. in the upper right hand corner they list the current temperature. If you click
on the temperature it takes you right to the web cams for both squares. I found this is the easiest way to direct "newbies" to the webcams.

Both links lead to Yahoo. But thanks for the effort.:laugh:I was shocked when I went and tested the links on MSIE, Firefox and Chrome and found that Yahoo did come up on all three browsers. So I went and checked the posting's source document and found that the coding was correct and pointed to the Villages website as it should. So when the request for the cams website gets processed it is accessing the correct address, but somehow it's getting hijacked by Yahoo somewhere along the internet pathway. I don't know why this is happening, but I suspect it may be happening by The Villages website.
In the mean time, you can access the cams by going directly to thevillages.com and click the tempertature in the upper right hand corner. It will popup the LSL cam and at the bottom there is a link to the SS cam.
Here is the copy of the source document segment showing that TOTV has it correctly pointing to The Villages website cam The Villages link will be in red and a little hard to read unless you highlite it and you'll need to scroll to the right:

Tip: Bookmark the two cam addresses when you have them displayed for ease of future retrieval!

In the line just above the cam window make sure the Video Format is set to Motion JPEG and not MPEG-4. that should give you the picture.
You can then click on the square with the arrow to blow things up full screen. Use the ESC key to get back to normal size.

TV does not like anyone linking to their web sites from a link within a web site that they do not want. This has been going on for a few years now. One option there is to right click on any like to thevillages.com or .net and have it open in a new window and it will work.
