Ok, I thought we left our moles back in IL. I guess we packed them along with everything else. Massey recommended someone who just came out to check out the problem. He said it would be at least $300 to take care of them. hmmm, am I being taken for a chump? I left our mole traps with friends in IL, didn't I would need them. Who did you use, what did it cost? thanks, TN

Usually people have moles (or voles) only if they have other issues. For example if your lawn has grubbs, you almost certainly will have moles/voles which consider grubbs to be like shrimp for most of us. That was a problem for me up north but I haven't seen that here. I can't understand why Massey (I employ them for lots of work) or any other lawn critter company would charge you $300 to get rid of them. I would have at least one more company look at the problem. I would also ask my neighbors if they had a problem, if they solved it in the past, or do they just leave them alone.

In California, we called the pest control specialist who charged us $100 to drop poison pellets down their mounds. The best thing to do is get a referral from someone here that has had success getting rid of their moles. Since they reproduce every Spring, you may have to get together with your neighbors to eradicate them on your block.

We had moles at our house in MA and then our house in NH. We were told to put urine soaked kitty liter down the holes and we did and never saw a mole again. I know that it doesn't sound apealling but it worked for us. After pouring it down the holes we filled the holes with dirt and there was no odor. If you don't have a cat find a friend with one.

For those who cannot find a friend with a cat, you can use plain ammonia - not the lemon scented - and pour some on cotton balls and stuff down the mole tunnels and cover with dirt. Cheaper and safer than the mole poison pellets.
I have a pair of Solar Mole Chasers (http://www.taylorgifts.com/item/solar_mole_chaser/20832) that work great. My neighbors have mole problems and keep trying different solutions. They continue to have mole problems but I don't.
I got mine at Lowes for around $20 each.

The part you left out or didn't hear when they quoted you for gopher control was the $39.00 per month following the initial $300 to keep them out. Perhaps they hadn't gotten that far in their sales presentation. I found out that the cheapest mode is to have Massey (or whoever) increase your grub control and without the grubs the gophersr go elsewhere on their own - no food. I had them bad for over a year, had a hard time getting them controlled and discussed with Massey, they made the increased grub control recommendation and I haven't had one since. Dropped the maintenance fee. They are very aggravating, they even pulled one out of an active mound alive while they were here treating. Neighbor and I both had them all over our yards.
