How many of you can honestly say that you have been given a FRUITCAKE as a gift within the past 50 years which still "might still be circulating" as you re gifted it?
I was just reorganizing my garage freezer and saw some "desserts" from quite awhile ago....stuck there in the bottom back bin.
I used to bake fruit cakes and give them away as gifts to neighbors who said they loved them, but who knows? I basted mine with apricot brandy.
I guess either one loves fruitcake or hates fruitcake.

Wonderful and generous idea.......what if it has a touch of freezer burn.
Do they still accept it?

Not a fruitcake but, we re-gifted a bowl we received for our wedding 33 years ago to my sister when she got married to her second husband last year. We had never opened the box the bowl came in so imagine our suprise when my sister said they LOVED the chocolate candy that came with the bowl we gave them

Now, that takes the cake.....or "candy".....that is a really good story and very, very funny.
I'm glad I'm not your sister. Did you ever tell her? Better not.

I do believe that fruitcakes were never meant to be eaten.
There are many uses for them - re-gifting, door stops, paper weights, lifting for exercise, etc.

I love good fruitcake! My mother's father was a baker. My mother made them every year and they did not last long around our house. Now my daughter makes them every year using my mother's recipe.
As for store bought fruitcake, I will pass.

Actually, I've heard that there is really only one fruitcake in the whole world..it just keeps being re-gifted.

Not so far we haven't said a word to her. That's one of those things you tell her sometime in the future. We get a good chuckle thinking about it from time to time

I had an aunt who was a terrible cook and even a worse baker. One time she made cupcakes and ger mother, (my grandmother), bit into one and lost a tooth. LOL
You can't make this stuff up.
