Lately I have been to Cane, Havana and Eden Prairie. I have always loved Cane. We tried Eden Prairie and found the food good but it is terribly expensive. We had a small soup. a small salad and shared an appetizer. The bill was 23.00!!! That is a bit hefty for my way of thinking. We went to Havana and the food has improved greatly. We had tasty chicken salad sliders on pretzel rolls. It was very reasonable. 5.99 I believe! The specials at Havana make it the cheapest. IMHO we will return to Cane and Havana but leave Eden Prairie to the Champagne budgets. Since I officially retired from my job as chaplain at TVRH yesterday I am now on a fixed salary and will be more attentive to the pennies.
I wish all of you a Very Merry Christmas if that is what you celebrate and a Happy Holiday. Peace to all our families, our country and our World.

Isn't Cane Garden the country club restaurant with the delicious meatloaf? They better keep that on the menu.

Peace to you Sally. BTW, isn't it Evans Prairie? Eden Prairie is a Minneapolis suburb.

As of yesterday Friday 4 pm, nothing has changed at Cane Garden. Went for the 19th hole and still good all around. Evans Prairie also good at noon Saturday but very, very crowded. Waited about 20 minutes but Florida Peach Paradise was well worth the wait.

We were at Cane CC at 4:30pm Friday and the only change we noticed is that the waitress explained the happy hour drinks were now 1/2 price instead of 2 for 1.

I heard that there will soon be a new owner. He works for The Villages but will own Cane Garden on his own. Was told his name but can't remember it. He is currently connected to The Villages management team that controlled Cane Garden, Light House and Arnold Palmer,s CC. So perhaps very little will change. With a little luck they will up date the TV's around the bar.
This is what I was told. May be correct (which I think it is) or may be incorrect. Time will tell.

The Village Gourmet is reporting that Mackie is the new owner as of mid December 2012.
Once again, the Morses are slowly divesting...The Daily Sun, Villages transportation, the entertainment department...all bought by the people who ran them for Morse. IRS???

My late brother, who lived just off Marion County Road east of the Florida Carriage Museum, claimed to have been one of the first customers at Cane Garden, as he'd come to make sure that my house in Sunset Pointe was a-building properly. He highly approved of the Sicilian Meatloaf and almost never ordered anything else!
Restaurants have the reputation of being among the least stable enterprises known to man! I think that it remains surprising that so many of our fine country clubs are still owned by the same folks!
So long as one doesn't mess with a Good Thing, why shouldn't a good restaurant cotinue to thrive, almost forever?

It appears to be part of their business plan and not new either. They sold off the country club restaurants north of 466 years ago.
