There has been considerable discussion recently about Century Link's high speed internet not being very high speed. Everyone can do a quick check to see if the Century Link signal is what it should be. It is a very easy check. Go to your web browser and after clearing the window, type in speedtest.net. In just minutes following a prompt or two, you will be given your Download speed and your Upload speed. With Century Link the numbers should be around;
Download 8.0 mbps
Upload 0.7 mbps
I was given these number by Century Link. I have had problems with very slow loading for nearly a month. My download speed is never above 4.1, but my upload speed is on mark at 0.69.
Century Link is certain that the problem is with Century link themselves and are sending a technician out to my home tomorrow to do a thorough check of the telephone hook up and other installation wiring.

It is my understanding that Century link high speed internet services should be at 8.0 mbps.. Your .80 upload is just about what it should be.
My speed has been slow for a long time and at last they are sending someone out to do a check of the Century Link portion of the services.

Did another test just to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

I've used the speedtest Ipad app and usually get a reading of 5.42 upload and 5.75 download. After you get your readings, pull down slightly on the meter a few times and read the messages. Cute cat !

Century Link offers different speeds and plans up to 40mbps. I have a plan that is for 10mbps internet and telephone with unlimited long distance, caller ID and call block for $59.99 a month. With tax it comes to about $75 a month.
This is the first time I've ever seen my speed below 9.5, using your speedtest website here are my results.

I normally go to this CenturyLink Speed Test (http://spdtst-miam.fl.centurylink.net/) website and then choose Miami or Atlanta. I just did that also and it was even lower, although I haven't seen any drop off in my computer's performance.
Download Speed: 7232 kbps (904 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 746 kbps (93.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 171 ms

A tech was out to my home this morning. I got the following information. Century link is set up for a download speed of 10 with a plus or minus range of 20%. The upload is set for a 1 with the 20% plus or minus. The speed coming into my home was a 9 plus, well within the acceptable range.
According to the tech, my slow speed of 3.3 etc is the result of my desk top not really being built to be operated as a wireless. I have a small
wireless UBS adapter which he felt would probably knock the speed down to less than a 4. At his suggestion, I will buy a more powerful UBS adapter and hope this improves my speed.
