Okay let's list some of the more recent stupid things that you have seen in TV that are above and beyond the normal. We has all seen the under age golf cart drivers or the person that accidental drove there car onto the cart path but I am looking at things that go beyond this.
Here is my list of three that I witnessed in the past few days. No need to add comments good or bad.
#1. Under age golf cart driver.
I know the first one is against the object of this thread but this one deserves to be listed. Driving past Palmer and the drive going into Palmer I see a boy looking to be 11 or 12 driving a golf cart with grand pa riding shotgun. Now that is not unusual at this time of the year but what get grand pa extra credit in the stupidity award category is the kid is also talking on his cell phone. Way to go grand pa teach the kid the correct way to do things.
#2. In a hurry to get around and rules of the road don't apply to me.
Following a guy in a cart heading down the path from Bonita to Havana next to Morse. I look in the rear view mirror and see no one. I drive a few hundred feet and now see a lady closing on me fast. Where did she come from? She passes me but does not pull in between us. She continues to try to pass the guy as we are approaching the right turn in front of Havana. All I can think of is I hope now one is coming the other way as the surly will be a head on crash. At about half way around the turn she finely relents and backs off and cuts in front of me with a sharp jerk of the steering wheel. She is livid in that she could not get past the guy and he was doing nothing wrong. Next she blows the stop at the Odell / Havana gate and continues to violate and driving rules known to mankind.
#3. Jogging on 466a.
Another one to take the cake is Saturday morning at about 10:30 I am driving west on 466a and come upon a jogger running on the right side of the road. I think to myself why doesn't this guy use the cart path instead of the road? This guy is running with his back to oncoming traffic to make matters worse. I know there was a thread earlier in the year regarding joggers and why they run on asphalt and not concrete but this guy was only using the concrete. Another one to make you wonder.
Okay time to add your stupid sitings.

Just today my wife and I were in the car heading to Spanish Springs to see the new Tom Cruise movie. We were on Rio Grande coming up to the 4 way stop at Del Mar. There was a golf cart in front of us. He stopped at the stop sign and proceeded to go straight, but when he was almost all the way through the intersection he realized that he wanted to turn on Del Mar so he quickly jerked the wheel to the left. In the meantime, the car that was stopped at the Stop sign heading the other way on Rio Grande saw that he was going straight and proceeded through the stop sign. When the golf cart suddenly swerved left, the car slammed on its brakes and just missed wiping out the golf cart.

Bikers who think that just because they can fit through the gate without the gate having to go up zoom through at top speed oblivious to the fact that carts crossing can not see them coming.

Today I saw a car heading north on Morse come out of the bypass around Sumter and do a u-turn back onto the northbound lane of Morse heading south! The car behind him laid on the horn to try to alert him to no avail.
When he got to the rotary he went backwards (counterclockwise) around the rotary! He was out of my sight after that and thankfully I never heard any crash. Be careful out there.

It seems to me there is a lot more traffic than usual this time of year. Trying to find a parking place anywhere near LSL recently is frustrating to say the least. Everyone needs to be extra careful now because there are those who don't understand our road system and those (as mentioned above) who don't care.

Just wait til after the 1st...when more snowbirds will be here and renters. The traffic will be denser, new people will be here....we'll ALL need to be vigilant while out and about!!

I just don't comprehend how people can still not use the roundabouts correctly. Every time I am out there I see cars going 3/4 the way around in the outside lane. Can't they see the new signs posted before every roundabout? Why is this so difficult for them? They work so well if used correctly and yet there seems to be those who refuse to do it.

I ride my bike to Starbucks at Sumter a lot of mornings from the Village of Charlotte. I was riding home to the South on Morse from Lake Sumter on the cart path and entered the tunnel next to Sweetbay. Going out of the tunnel there is a direct right turn, hill and curve to the left. A young guy driving a cart with his wife next to him and a small child on the back pass me on the hill in the middle of the blind curve. If another cart were approaching there would have been a huge head on collision and I would have probably been hit. I tried to run him down but could not catch him. :what:

And we're off...
hey, hey, hey ......our LSV was in mid December, and if I recall correctly the last major roundabout thread occurred a couple of weeks before that. I thought I had read that the topic usually pops up about once a month......so isn't this due, right on time?? LOL
During our visit we had absolutely no problems navigating the roundabouts, since thanks to everyone here on TOTV I had had plenty of instruction regarding their proper use. And interestingly enough, the ONLY driver we saw who really broke the rules (changing lanes within the roundabout)...was our sales agent! (He said he had never looked at TOTV so hopefully he won't read my comment here about his rambunctious roundabout driving).
But now back to the original topic: I can honestly say we have absolutely no stupid things to report from our 5 day LSV. Having never visited before we weren't exactly sure what to expect, given the known TV demographics combined with lots of comments we had read on here. We were prepared for something between bumper cars & complete NYC style gridlock, but everywhere we ventured everyone seemed to know & abide by the rules of the road & traffic moved smoothly. Perhaps we were just lucky?
All I can say is, we can't wait to come back!

Let's try to think good thoughts. We all know that TV is not perfect but it is darn close. It's easy to find things to complain about, we don't need a thread that invites complaints. If you want to vent then try beating the heck out of a little white ball or go downtown and dance away your frustrations. Start the new year off right with positive thoughts.

That was certainly a dangerous thing that the young man did with his golf cart but I do not understand one thing: Why did you try and catch him? Telling him of his mistake in any tone of voice would have the natural effect of provoking some sort of shouting match at the least. Depending on how the shouting match might have gone (and where he was from), he might have even poked you in the nose.
Best thing to do in the same situation would have been is to shake your head and just be glad nothing happened as he passed you.

I'm here full-time and all of these stated issues are here during the summer months too. In the winter months, there are just more people doing the same things, so it seems worse.
Most times, when I see someone going around the roundabout in the wrong lane, the car has Florida plates on it... i.e. probably a full timer ...
Just sayin.....

Why do people, mostly little elderly ladies, think they can take their cars (CARS, not carts) and attempt to drive over the golf cart bridge on 441??? I saw a woman the other day in a Prius...she must have been at least 90 years old....driving on the path, past the dog park and slowly inching her way up the bridge until her mirrors scraped the sides and she got stuck. People were screaming at her, chasing her and trying to stop her but she never heard a word.
I read these stories about the real elderly persons in TV and all I can do is smile. I am one of those very lucky people who, as a nurse, just loves to be with older people. I know they can be forgetful, cantankerous, and sometimes dangerous - but they also have so much to offer ....and they are a mirror of what I'll turn-into in a few years. I'm not yet in TV, but I hope I will be in a few months...and I hope that the "relaxed" style of life there will allow me to slow down my driving. Look around at the beautiful surroundings and be careful of those mistakes of the elderly and watch-out for the poor people who still have their "city mentality" of driving.

What finally happened? If she got stuck, there must have been some sort of "rescue" made to her and the car. Did the police come to the situation or the Community Watch come to help her get the car back on the road?
Isn't there the white post barrier at either end of the golf cart bridge to prevent a car from going on the path onto the bridge?

My friend has a serious back injury, uses a cane, and is in a lot of pain as she awaits surgery. While driving her golf cart and approaching the resident's entrance at the Village of Bridgeport Sumter Landing, she slowed to ride over the yellow traffic "humps". Two women in a cart behind hers, yelled at her to "hurry up" and impatiently drove around my friend's moving cart right into the path of an oncoming resident's car. The resident was able to avoid an accident, and the two women drove on. hurling filthy curses about slow and old drivers. My friend is 55.......

There are no posts at the ends of the bridge. She just drove on the sidewalk and up she went. Someone called a tow truck to pull her out. Community Watch never showed up...imagine that!

Yesterday, I was in my car stopped at a light. i looked around and saw a woman driver rubbing both her eyes at the same time. Her car was still moving, she had both hands off the wheel and her eyes covered.
Luckily she hit the brake before she hit anyone. Clueless !

Only thing I can imagine about Community Watch not showing up is that nobody called them to report the situation. I have them on my cell phone so in case of an issue, I can just scroll down in Contacts and hit the "call" button.
The number is 352-753-0550. They are not the same as the police but will respond quickly and will also contact police or emergency service is required.

My "other half" says I tend to look for the mistakes folks make while driving (whether cars or carts). Every time we're out we see someone do foolish things. I agree with the poster that in winter there's just more of us...so we see it happen more, but it's all year round. I would say that I see a lot of cars with FL licenses doing really stupid (I mean, silly) things!!! But golf cart drivers really take the cake. Today saw a young woman with her cart definately loaded. Four little kids in the rear seat I might add and at least 3 folks in the front seat...make a right had turn onto Stillwater from a side street in Caroline without stopping. She was really going fast too. I'm not even sure if she looked both ways. The only good thing was she didn't pull in front of our car or it would have been "curtains" for those folks!!! The other day we saw a "Granma" holding her baby grandchild (more of a very young toddler) in her lap while she was driving her golf-cart. THAT really makes me nervous!!!

Joe: Good approach and helpful at times However, consider the benefits of defensive pessimism> It allows for a realistic approach to things and the recognition that nature has its limits
In keeping with this thread and having lived here fulltime for over six years Ihave witnessed no less than 6 cars on the cartpaths, cart drivers who stop suddenly on the carpaths for any number of reasons, car drivers who have stopped midway in a right turn to let other cars/ carts pass, shoppers who have left their groceries in their grocery carts and drove away. Joggers in the diamond lane that defy you. Drivers car/cart who wait until the very last second and then decide to pull out from a driveway or side street. Families who pile into a car like teenager did in telephone booths. Cart drivers who blast their radio so loud that it would drown out the sound of a plane overhead . so for me a defensive pessimism keeps me alert

OK, I just have to add this one: only living here 3 days, and I decide to go and get the mail keys. Coming back home to the security gate in nearby neighborhood. I see the security arm down at the gate, I panic, and freeze in my car. Poor guy behind me in a golf cart who looks rather frail, behind me, and now there's even more cars behind me. Guy gets out of his golf cart to PUSH the button for arm at gate to raise. Duh! I forgot that you don't need a gate pass to get thru the gates!
Let's all remember that we have done some stupid things in public.
