View Full Version : An update on the Progress Energy/Walmart fence
This was posted in my community's POA website:

Progress Energy Fence, Looking for a Solution!
There are still continuing discussions going on with Progress Energy and Walmart (and other local business). Progress Energy is working with Walmart’s realestate team and researching possible solutions for the path. At this point in time no decision has been made.
A fence will eventually be installed; however,we are looking forward to a solution that will benefit all parties involved. As more information is received I will post updates.

Does that fence mean that Stonecrest residents could not golf cart to The Villages and use our Multi-Modal Trails?
No, it means that residents who live in the less affluent manufactured home sections of TV will not have golf cart access to the more affordable food, clothing, and medication offered by Wal-Mart via that trail.

So will the more affluent site built homeowners have access? Appears the seperation between classes is getting wider. No perhaps we are just getting fenced in? Think I'll move to Stonecrest. Getting to Walmart from that affluent neighborhood just threw me over the edge.
Stonecrest residents can use their golf carts to access over 150 retail stores and restaurants all along the 441 corridor without ever traveling on amenity supported multi-modal trails in TV.

Unless you include the golf cart bridge in the multi-modal trails. Supposedly the developer owns the golf cart bridge, but where is it written that ammenity fees do not support that facility which is open to walkers, bikers, and golf carts: ie multi-modal.

How affluent? :1rotfl:I hear you have to own a Crown Vic to live there. Oh yea they are just like Lincoln Town cars.

I believe people are misintrepting EdV's comment. Rather than being hurtful I think he was trying to be helpful indicating the folks that probably regularly use that path may be cut off and it could hurt them in their pocket. Sounds like a Stonecrest vs Village feud going on here and for the life of me can't imagine why that would be. :boxing2: Why don't we all just count our
blessing to be in this beautiful part of Florida and enjoy it whichever way we choose. Peace!

I believe Walmart, Progress Energy and Stonecrest POA have been in meetings to resolve this issue - don't believe any reps from TV were involved (???)
Stonecrest property borders on the new medical facilities behind Aldi's and a gate could easily be added but probably would not be open to the general public.

Thanks gomoho, I couldn’t have said it any better myself. But for the record:
Definition: af•flu•ent Adjective (esp. of a group or area) Having a great deal of money; wealthy
I cannot imagine how anyone could interpret my referring to the historical section of TV as 'less affluent' being derogatory. But if that is the case, I sincerely apologize for your misunderstanding.
Perhaps it would have been more tactful if I had said that the residents of the historical section of TV, like those of us in Stonecrest, tend to be more frugal when it comes to spending our wealth.

Many use the path to get to Lowe's and Wal-Mart, not all of whom live on the historic side. It doesn't benefit my grandson in the least but it is one of his favorite rides on the golf cart -- the bumps are "whee".
EdV, thanks for the info and for changing your wording (less affluent is slightly insulting -- you'd be amazed just how many very affluent but frugal souls live in the historic side).
And Happy New Year!!!

Please correct me if I’m wrong...but I believe that trail is the only way ANYONE can get to Walmart/Lowes via golf cart.

It will be nice when the construction is finished later this year and the route will be completely paved.

Why all this uproar about letting Stonecrest residents use The Villages multi-modal paths?

No, just to the Wal-Mart. The trail that goes from TV to Lowes will actually be improved and paved when the new assisted living complex is completed (as a result of a petition organized by TV residents).

EdV... I think Skybo was referring to Stonecrest residents going to Lowes via the same path when the post stated "ANYONE". It benefits both communities.
I really don’t think so because Stonecrest already has its own private golf cart gates to Wal-Mart.
From the Jan 18 2013 Stonecrest POA Newsletter:
Progress Energy Fence Update: As of January 16, Progress Energy and Wal-Mart are still in talks. Their attorneys are involved and are working on putting together an agreement for the use of the land. We are hoping for a decision in the next two weeks. The outcome is still looking positive.

Progress Energy Golf Cart Path per Stonecrest POA Bulletin:
The substation appears to be built out and will not need to be expanded.
This means that there may be land available for the path to stay.
Wal-Mart and Progress Energy are still talking and coming up with a solution.
Talks are still positive

They have their own gate to the back SE corner of the WallyWorld parking lot .... but they need this path (now bandit cut through) to get to Aldi and points south (Lowes, ect.)

Stonecrest has cart gates to both the north and south sides of Walmart; also can use the frontage road on the west side of Stonecrest from the north auto gate and the main auto gate.
I would guess that carts using the Progress Energy property are 90% or so TV residents. If this was closed off, Stonecrest could probably get permission from the medical facilities to install a cart gate to get around Progress Energy.

Progress Energy Golf Cart Path per Stonecrest 6/14/13 POA Bulletin:
Duke Energy (formerly Progress Energy) received internal permission to sell the golf cart path between Wal-Mart and Aldi. It is in the hands of their Real-estate/Community Relations departments. A buyer has not been established; however, the rumor is Wal-Mart is looking at it.

Yes and it would be nice if Wal-Mart did purchase it and also at least put some type of gravel down to even it out a bit. I feel like I'm in an episode of MASH when I go through there.

I live right off 466a and for a nice long ride take a ride to aldi's Only takes 35 minutes. The trail is the only way to get there now with less bumps because now you go on a road by the new construction
