Can someone tell me exactly what Community Watch is/does? I see plenty of pickup trucks, SUV's driving around. They occasionally drive down my street and wave if I'm outside. They must have a very large budget with all he vehicles, the light bars on the roof are over $1000 each. Is it a paid position? Are they trained, and if so, what is the extent of their training? Inquiring minds want to know.

You can call them for additional information. This from Village Community Development Districts (http://www.districtgov.org)
Community Watch
Community Watch is the eyes of The Villages. We are not a law enforcement agency, but we do work closely with the Sheriff's departments of Lake, Marion and Sumter counties as well as the Lady Lake Police Department. We conduct roving patrols in all districts (VCCDD, SLCDD and Districts 1-10) and are responsible for staffing all gates in that same coverage area.
Some of the services we provide Village Residents are::
The House Check Program is a service available to all residents who will be leaving the area for more than seven days. Residents signing up for this program ... read more
The Resident Out of Area Program is also a program for people who will be leaving The Villages for more than seven days. This program is ... read more
The Adult Watch Program is a service provided for residents that live alone or residents with a partner who needs someone to give them a call to make sure ... read more
Community Watch Office - We at the Community Watch office are the organizational and directional hub of all services provided by this Division. We are open Monday - Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and we ask that all residents with concerns contact our office for assistance. To contact us call 753-0550 -- our staff will be pleased to serve you.
Dispatch Center - Community Watch staffs a dispatch Center 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in an effort to ensure that Village Residents always have a person to contact should you have any question that we may help you with. Our number at our Dispatch Center is 753-0550.

They keep a look-out too for 'unusual' activity in neighborhoods. Leave your garage-door open all night---you should receive a call from their office 1st thing the next morning from their office to make sure everything is o.k. Do this enough times and you'll remember, finally, to close it before you go to bed.
"IF" someone complains about a yard (having stuff in it that isn't under the covenance) they may also come and knock on your door to give you a head's up regarding the rules.
I, for one, appreciate their presence!!

The Community Watch drivers do earn a salary, minimum wage, which is $7.67per hour. The regulars work a four day on, four day off, 8 hour per day shift. There are also substitute drivers which fill in where needed.

Just with their presence, makes a difference. Never know whats out there, with gates readily available to go through, without too much of a challenge!! I like the idea of them riding around. They are trained to spot situations, that we as residents, don't see. They do a great job. Maybe sometimes, don't like how fast they ride through neighborhood!! I remember a few years back, they had these burgulers in our neighborhoods, who had one person (lady) walking through neighborhood with cell phone in hand, and would call the driver when she noticed someone leaving their home, so they could pull up to home like they were workers, and break into home. (They were caught) So really good to have Village Watch

I agree with this post. They don't have any real power, but they can get some real power if they need it. I just like to know they are patrolling our streets day and night. When it gets warmer I will be out walking at 6am and I love to see one of their trucks pass me and wave, just knowing they know I am out there is important to me. We have actually called them several times in the past and their response time is excellent.

They will also assist with other problems. for example the water from my sink showed cloudy, i called they got ahold of a water guy /girl and sh was there within hours of my call. also helped with explainng blackouts, etc.
They are a good resource and so I hope they never fall back on their laurels because they can make a difference

My friend's husband works at Community Watch and is an ex-
policeman. Maybe that will make you feel better about this
wonderful service.

Community Watch is great. One time I left our garage open all night by mistake but around 7 am, they called to ask if this was being done for a purpose. They come around two to three times a night and if something is different from normal, they'll get in touch with you.
