I know this has been written about many times but I can't seem to find it. We are closing on our spec on January 21st but we were really hoping to change out the refrigerator. In a thread from 2010 it was mentioned that if you go back to the original installer they will sell you an upgrade if you pay a small fee. Does anyone know anything about this? Is the same installer used for all of the homes?

Why not just decline the appliance and buy what you want?

You can not decline anything on a Spec home I have bought two and they were as is.
I did upgrade the kitchen on the first one. The dealer was Del Air. I know some dealers
will not allow just ask.

We sold our new one to someone on TOTV who was looking for a backup refrigerator for the garage. (That is when we bought the spec home in Hadley) We replaced it with icemaker model etc.
Trish, I have read here on TOTV that the supplier would trade for an upgrade. I will see if I can find the link.

i asked about trading appliances on a spec home and was told the company that buys and/or trades was no longer doing it, this was in November of 2012. I ended up building, opted out of fridge and range, got what I wanted and it was pretty painless, saved about $1000 on the fridge buying my own, and got an induction range which was not even offered. Builder said they will be offering the inductions in the near future.

We have been thinking of an induction range. How do you like it?

I love it!! I got the Electrolux slide in range and with having no gas utility in the south end I decided to go induction, like it even better than gas. You can PM me if you want to know where I got it and details. Installation was easy, and it actually saves energy since it is so fast to heat. You do need magnetized pots and pans, so stainless steel and cast iron work. If I am out shopping for a pan I carry a magnet clip with me to make sure, some advertise that they work but they don't.
