Can anyone recommend a good family doctor either here in the villages, or close by?

I recommend Dr Norman Novis. Since we moved here 18 months ago we have (unfortunately) had several major medical issues. The good news is we learned how good a diagnostician our doctor is and how well connected he is to specialists. Best of all he really cares about his patients. He doesn't rush you through appointments and treats you with respect. He just opened his own practice so I know he is taking new patients. It's Patients First Primary Care at 753 Hwy 466 (just west of Rolling Acres) 352.633.7659.

A great doctor in The Villages is Jane Cai. I have been going to her for about 5 months now, and she is wonderful.

I know a lot of people have recommended Dr Felix Agbo, but after two appointments with him, husband is switching. Doctor is rushed, and is not at all as thorough as we had heard. He wanted to sign me up as a patient, along with my husband, makes us feel as he is wanting to get the patient numbers up. rather than focusing on patient at hand. Blood work prescribed by him wasn't even relevant, for husband being a heart patient and new patient of his.

It's kind of tough for many people to recommend a doc. For example, I picked my doc after meeting him in the hospital. But he works for me because I really only need minimal care like an annual physical or an occasional office visit for something relatively minor (thank God) at this point. Those who need more care may not like my doc. I don't know.

I also picked a different doc for my wife since I know she wanted a woman and preferably someone younger.

Time will tell if I made good choices.

Note: Being a nurse at the hospital I can't post my choices in this open forum. Please respect that. Thanks.

We first moved here 1 year ago. We immediately selected a physician, moved our records, did new blood work...etc,etc,etc. in the past 2 months I have needed my doctor for severe back pain and a very bad sinus infection. Each time I was offered an appointment more than 7 days away. I was not referred to any other Doctor or Urgent Care. Is this usual? I have always been able to see my doctor within 24 hours in the past. Since I have been here I have had to go to Urgent Care three times. So far I feel my family practice physician is a joke.

Russ:

I completely understand and approve of your position. But, is it within your ethics to provide some generalized guidelines to Villagers on how to select qualified physicians?

I'm thinking you could provide a huge service!

To be honest I didn't pick my doc based on where he/she went to school. Or what their rating is on any website. I based it on how they worked with patients in the hospital. You know, real life. How did they approach the patient from a medical POV (I don't like docs that do nothing but push meds). But more importantly how did they work with the patient on a personal level. This is the type of thing that you can't get unless you work with them or have them as your physician already.

As I mentioned I don't have many current needs so it's not that difficult of a decision.
