If you cannot find a vacant lot, to accommodate a GC garage, or you purchase an existing home without a GC garage, what are some creative ways to store the GC, if you also have 2 cars? Can you add a GC garage onto the back of your home? Or, can you stretch the lanai, add some type of double/barn doors to the end of the lanai and drive the cart inside the lanai? Hubby and I would be very interested in hearing some creative solutions. Thank you in advance.

I looked at a house that had a stretched two car garage and they had made a driveway to the left side of the house and put a golf cart door on the side of the garage, closest to the house, so you could park the cart sideways, in front of the cars! I thought that was amazingly ingenious!

Thank you for sharing this GREAT idea. I knew there had to be some type of creative solution.

Before buying a house with the intent of doing some creative addition I would run it by Architectural Review.

Great advice Bogie Shooter. We have built 4 homes (VA, CO, NC, and SC). Each build had its own, unique challenges and restrictions to consider. Thank you for reminding us to do our due diligence. TOTV rocks!!!

There is a house on cane garden, that parks their cart at the back of the house by the lanai. Looks kind of strange, but no one behind him sooooooo.

If you bought a Gardenia, you could add a golf car garage between the current garage and the front door. They have a model like that now, I think the Lily or Iris? You lose the window in the kitchen.
My real solution was unique. I really wanted that golf cart space. We looked at larger homes, but really loved our location so we actually bought a second house with a golf cart garage a one minute walk away. I put up a wall in the garage between the main garage and the golf cart garage and use the second home as a rental property.

Thanks, everyone.....as usual, great feedback and ideas to add to our list. We were also wondering if anyone has seen/heard of anyone building a golf cart garage on the back of their home...this configuration would obviously require some type of sidewalk to be poured, from the front of the house, to the back, as well as permission; however, at this point, just wondering if anyone has seen/heard of anything like this. Again, we thank everyone who took their time to provide great information on this topic.:bigbow:

There is a 2 car garage home on Loma Paseo Drive in the village of La Reynalda with a golf cart garage in the rear off the multi modal path, quite unique. The house was up for sale a few months ago.
I know someone who has a 2 car garage and parks 2 big cars in the garage, with the golf cart parked sideways behind one of the "very long" cars! It works, in the absence of a golf cart garage but takes some maneuvering to fit the golf cart sideways.

Another idea to put in the file. Thanks, so much, for passing along a creative solution. Enjoy your day in Paradise.

Thanks, Jimbo. I can always count on you, for sage advice. Hubby and I hope to be down, in the next 1 or 2 months, to select a lot. We are just waiting on his company to finalize his relocation timeline. Some of the lot premiums, online, are reasonable; however, some are absolutely staggering (location, location, location). This is going to be an interesting process. Did you select a lot with kissing lanai's? That topic seems to get a lot of 'spirited' debates on this forum. When we were on our LSV, we were a little surprised at how close the back neighbors can be. I am thinking some creative landscaping will help, but hubby seems to want more privacy. Again, this is going to be an interesting process. Enjoy your day.

We switched to smaller cars (KIA Sorento & VW Beetle) and park the cart sideways in front of the KIA. When it's golf cart time, I just back out the KIA. It's a little extra effort but all three are of the driveway and safely in the garage. We have an Amarillo.

There are four designer models that will fit on any designer lot AND include a golf cart garage -- The Iris, The Lilac, The Begonia, and The Sunflower.

My neighbor proposed a revision of his garage which complied with everything you list. Then he was turned down flat by ARC, which would not allow him to put a concrete path to the garage.

AGREED. We like the Iris because it already has the golf cart garage. Grant it, the two extra bedrooms are a little smaller, but we can live with that. We are stretching the front bedroom out four feet and the side out one foot, so it won't be a problem for us. If you can't find a lot to fit an extra garage on the side, try to find one with a little extra feet for the Iris or the other above reference golf cart models. Or if you are not real picky about the roominess of the two extra bedrooms, it will fit on any lot I beleive

Sorry All- We are new to this and set up a new account instead of just having Bruce's first and last name. We thought showing our love for pugs in our name would help people remember us! I am reposting under our new handle...thanks

Go on the Villages.com website, press the area near the top left side that says "neighborhoods", and when the new page comes up, on the right hand side it lists all of the sections open (205,206, etc...). Click on a section of homes you are interested in and any home that are dark green are available lots with prices listed, and any lime green are lots with spec homes on them with the prices for both listed

YES WE AGREE WITH THE IRIS IDEA. WE ARE BUILDING ONE ON QUAIL CT, BUT WE AJUSTED THE HOUSE ON THE LOT SO WE COULD STRETCH THE GARAGE. WE MOVED OUT THE GARAGE WALL 4 FEET, MAN CAVE, AND IN RETURN HER KITCHEN GREW 4 FEET ALSO...........WOW THE NEIGHBORS SAY.

I would check into such things way ahead of time with the review board. Each village has restrictions and the newer the village the more restrictions are in place. I'm not really sure if a lot of these lots allow space to drive a cart from the back to the front anyway...something like that would have to be approved and hope your neighbors don't get their hackles up about it you really don't want that :( . Normally the footprint of the house can't really be changed and you can only add on within another footprint ie birdcages patio etc. Really would be interested to see where this one goes. My biggest suggestion would be find a place to fit your needs to start. We ended up with one car out and one in with the golfcart.
And yep you can stretch when you build...the one we're in is stretch 2ft on the front...makes for a nice bedroom with a bay :)
