We just closed on our new home in the Village of Charlotte. Lots to do, but we have a very dumb question for the incredible resource of wonderful people on this forum...

...what are the blue lights found on top of the traffic signals in the area... Highway 27/441 and Main St (near Spanish Springs... Rolling Acres and 27/441, Rolling Acres and 466, etc.

We have been in the area about 2 months and just can't seem to figure out their purpose. Thanks!

They are the receivers for a signal from emergency vehicles approaching. The signal changes the traffic lights to green for safer emergency vehicle travel.

ps: there are NO dumb questions.

Actually, they're for the police to be able to tell when someone runs a red light:

Thanks----I hadn't given it much thought but figured those to be like a camera to catch you running a red light. Your answer makes more sense!

But, as I now clearly see, sometimes there ARE dumb answers!

I thought they meant there was a K-Mart near by!

Thank you one and all for the info. I thought maybe it had something to do with red light running, but not all intersections have them, the link posted indicated they were only in Lake County. It is a little confusing with 3 counties in such close proximity...I guess some of the villages homes are inso in different "cities". Lots of things are different here than in Arizona...

The article dates back to June 2010. I'd suspect Sumter county has installed the lights in the interim.
