When I was very young my Daddy told me, "if someone is not dead or dying of an Incurable disease, it's just NOT really a problem. I wish he had talked to more people. It seems we have soooo many complaints that just don't matter in the big scheme of life.

Really, that's so very true. We do tend to get wrapped up in the little things sometimes, taking for granted stuff that really matters. May we all live long and prosper!

Your daddy is so right.

It is amazing that a very serious illness threatening a family member puts all things in perspective.

Don't sweat the small stuff.....and most of it is small stuff.

Being only 35 I interview people at the sunset of their lives to share the video biography with their family. The thing that strikes me about all of them is that they don't complain about how life handed them a bad break. They never talk about how the world is against them. They are generally happy with how things turned out. Most say, "I wish I had traveled more" or "I wish I had spent time with my family more" but never do they complain about how their boss did not give them that promotion, or how they lost a bunch of money in the tech bubble or anything.

People may complain in the mean while, but when they look back on it all they must always say that they have been blessed with great family, great friends, and great experiences. For those that don't feel blessed, often they should just look inside of themselves, because often that is where the problem can be found.

I wonder what your Daddy would say about a candy bar costing $1.50 @ the starter shacks?

He would say "A fool and his money are soon parted"

Does TV ever have Girl Scouts bused in selling stuff.
I would not want to say what I paid for bad pop corn.

But it was ok anyway. I knew the kid.

I think Daddy would say be darn grateful you have candy bars and the ability to purchase them.

I think everyone should have really sick early in their life to appreciate the simple pleasures of life and not sweat the small stuff. Being human, it is so easy to get wrapped up in the small stuff but to have the perspective that it's all small stuff is priceless.

Give me my health, good friends and family and I'm all set.

I think we often have more regrets for things we have NOT done than the things we have done.

He would probably say the same thing he said about $4 a dip ice cream cones. Then he would start in on how he couldn't afford ice cream or candy during the Great Depression and how you couldn't get ice cream or candy during WWII because sugar was rationed. He would say how bad the Ready to Eat Meals were soooo bad when in Germany during the war and a Hershey bar could buy you "just about anything". He would tell us about how he went to work for a major defense contractor in 1940 for 50 cents and hour. Then he would say, "Times, they are a changin". :-)

I interviewed a WWII Veteran the other day for a video biography. He was well traveled, going to Europe 8 diffrent times, and has been to every state in the US of A during his 88 years. Had a pretty exciting life I must say with regards to seeing alot. He was very thankful for the opportunity to see all he has. For years now he has had trouble walking and getting around, and is saddened by the fact that he will never get to go visit some friends in Ireland.

If there is one thing in this world we "should take advantage of, but never take for granted, is our health." "Use it while you've got it" because "when you can't travel easily the world sure does get smaller."

I'll take that to heart.

Emery:

it's so good to hear someone so young to be wise at heart. Your profile says your 35.

One thing is for sure as you get to be a senior citizen is that one's health makes one very wealthy in spirit.

I watched a library-DVD a couple of days ago about "The Ice Age". It was a recreation of cave men trying to survive in the freezing cold. All they had were animal-skins wrapped around themselves and spears for hunting. Often they were hunted by the animals.

After I saw the movie I thought: "I guess I have it pretty good here in The Villages." :)

:agree:
I love it that anyone 35 wants to listen to "the older generation"
