Gulf side beach where we can take our dog? [Archive]

My wife and I would like to take a day trip over to the gulf. Does anyone know of a beach where dogs are allowed. Would like to be north of Tampa up to or around the Crystal Springs area.

There is a section of beach in Howard State Park in Tarpon Springs where dogs are allowed. It's a very nice state park with several differnt areas within it.
Also on Courtney Campbell Causeway that goes from Tampa to Clearwater there is a dog beach.

If you decide to go farther south, Boca Grande! I can't say enough about it!

North of Tampa (just outside of Dunedin), there is Honeymoon Island State Park. There is a section of the beach for dogs there. Being a State Park, there is an entrance fee of $8 - but free if you are a disabled veteran.

While it is not north of the Tampa bay area .... in fact, you can't get anymore west of Tampa and still be on dry land! .... Ft De Soto Park has an outstanding dog beach area.

It has both a fenced area (divided into big / small dog sides) with great dog showers and an UNLEASHED dog beach area that is directly on the gulf / bay. As an added bonus, Ft De Soto is consistently voted among the prettiest beaches in the USofA
