Mallory country club has changed it's happy hours to 1-4pm. This started last friday when terry torres plays regularly on fridays. When customers learned of the happy hour not in effect, most left. Place was almost empty at 5pm. not good for golfers getting done with afternoon wave and stopping for a $13.00 pitcher of beer. Havana as of today switched to happy hour till 6pm which is fine with me. Used to be all day.:undecided:

I used Facebook to contact Mallory Hill Country Club to see if this was true. One of their employees wrote back that the Happy Hour was changed to 1-4 pm last Friday.
Definitely, that will have a BIG impact on their business. They do have very good pizza but I will be going elsewhere.

I was in there the first day this went into effect at 2P after golf. I joked with the bartender which I know well and like... "this is not going to work for me"
I do not understand why they doing it, they will catch the morning wave folks, but IMO 2-6 was much better..... We often would hop over to the pool at 4ish to relax and grab a drink or two and an appetizer. We will likely not do that as often when it is not happy hour...
Up to them of course, will see what happens....

We too were surprised on Friday. Came in after golf (about 5:00) for a drink and dinner, and found out about the change. While we really like the bartenders, I think we'll not be there as much....Like you say, we'll see..........

Happy hours should be not be allowed in The Villages. Too many folks can't control their drinking so what do we do here? Give them 1/2 price drinks for a limited period of time so they can drink as much as they can and then drive home in a cart or a car. I bet happy hours are the cause of a lot of nutty drivers. We all should note the time when we see nutty drivers. Some states do not allow happy hours and I agree with that. Alcohol is a very bad drug, it kills more people and destroys more families than cars or guns. When a drunk driver kills, you don't see people trying to enforce "alcohol control". Why is that? What kind of a wacky society do we live in?

Happy hours are not the problem. 99% of those who go out for a drink during happy hour don"t over indulge. A couple of beers after golf or 2 drinks with your dinner are what most village residents see as the norm. For those who overdue it, they will simply drink more at home and then get on the road and cause problems.

For my 2 to 3 beers, happy hour or not, wouldn't effect where I go. I go where I'm comfortable, if I have to worry about an extra 2 or 3 bucks I'd stay home. I do see the point of the " heavy drinkers" who are sitting at the bar for 3 to 5 hrs a day and they will go where they can drink the cheapest.

No facts, just going to happy hours for 40 years and observing peoples habits. Other than outlawing alcohol completely, your not going to stop people from drving impaired.

We went to Mallory one week and happy hour was until 6 p.m. We went the following week and found it now ended at 4 p.m. I usually just have one glass of wine so money is not really the issue. However, I do not like the idea of Mallory changing their policy.

I would be willing to bet an ice-cold Yeungling (half-price, of course) that Mallory Hill Country Club reverts to the former 6pm Happy Hour after Snowbird Season (mid-April or so) ends.

Bonifay has also stopped their daily low priced drink specials and I would bet those do come back after the snowbird season.

Just a guess: Mallory might have changed the timeframe for their happy hour in order to help make more room for people coming in for dinner.

We always enjoyed listening to Terri on Fridays and having 2 cocktails before dinner. We usually are able to order 2 drinks each and dinner for less than $32.00 if we watch where we go and what time. In this way we can eat out 3 days for under $100. We never have more than 2 drinks but do enjoy those 2 before dinner. We will not be going to Mallory til they go back to the old happy hour in the summer.

You are very fortunate to not have to think about this, but not everyone is in the same boat so it is important to some folks who also enjoy going out.

That's the spirit! Boycott Mallory when they are doing us all a favor by keeping a few drunks off the road.
The thinking on this subject baffles my mind. People complains when there are crazy drivers on the road but when a restaurant cuts down on free alcohol, people complain about that. Lets all have "one for the road" and hope we don't KILL or get KILLED on the way home.

Its snowbird season. I'd also be willing to bet that they're raising the drink prices because they can. They same reason that golf prices go up this time of year. I've seen prices go up at the grocery stores too. When the snowbirds leave, prices will move back down.

Maybe I missed something from earlier in the thread........but I don't think the concern expressed was about drink prices being raised per se - it was about the timeframe for happy hour being changed.

You are correct Bill, but when you change the time frame that changes the drink prices! Lots of people go to dinner between 5 & 6 and appreciate the happy hour opportunity with their dinner.

"Just a guess: Mallory might have changed the timeframe for their happy hour in order to help make more room for people coming in for dinner."
Possible, but I believe the timeframe change in happy hour would actually have the opposite effect. The customers coming in for dinner want an incentive for coming to Mallory CC instead of going to another restaurant. Half price drinks are a great incentive and the restaurant still makes money on the half price drinks.

We did not eat at Mallory Friday night, but the parking lot was full at 6 PM as we drove by. Apparently, the non-happy groupies were out in force.

Actually... this time of year the volume is going to be there regardless, no incentive is necessary to drive sales.
Why would any, right-minded, business person leave money on the table by extending discounted drink prices into the dinner hour?
They will, and should, save the "good-will" for the off-season.

Went to Mallory for pizza late this afternoon. When we left at 5:15, there was a waiting line, so they don't need to offer happy hour to bring in the customers!

Bingo. Businesses are allowed to adjust their practices to remain profitable. And people are allowed to go elsewhere.
Perhaps it would just cost too much to maintain a longer happy hour through the tourist season.

If I go to a restaurant, I can hope there is a "Happy Hour", but I'm not going to get up and leave because there isn't one!!! I'm there for the food and a glass of wine. If I have to pay regular price, So be it!! I can always have my Happy Hour at home or neighbors before we leave. Restaurants need to make their money during this time frame, to keep them going in summer, when things are slower. I'm just glad instead of having just a Happy Hour, I'm having a "Happy Day" (24 hrs)

Perhaps I misunderstood, but I got the impression that there was concern about paying higher prices for the after-golf round of drinks, because the happy hour time had changed.

I agree -seems like with this huge influx of people, the bars and restaurants are absolutely packed - they don't need to offer incentives to draw in customers.

Kind of makes since that with a seasonal business you would try to maximize revenue for the four months to help get you through the slow season. I would think shortening the happy hour during these four months is simpler than raising the prices and keeping the hours the same. Whats the better alternative??

I'm all for a shorter Happy Hour during snowbird season, as opposed to across the board prices increases all year long.

I think Cane Gardens made a change too. I ordered a beer, the waitress brought 1 instead of 2 but only charged $1.35. That's a better way to do it so you're not forced to drink 2 beers when you only want one. This should cut down on the drunk drivers during the "high season".

I am JUST GUESSING that it has been changed because they have beaucoup business during the high season and generally happy hour is a marketing ploy to encourage more business during slow times. They probably need every seat during dinner hours with the snowbirds back.
I really don't think it was to annoy people.
Here I am defending this place again. But I don't see why it is a problem.
But I am not the brightest bulb in the chandelier.
Whooops. Shoulda read until the end. It is already fixed.
