I can't believe this happened. My husband was driving our car home today. He was on Pinellas Place, waiting to turn left onto Avondale when a man driving a golf cart drove straight into the drivers side door!

Nothing, absolutely NOTHING surprises me any more. There is a great thread going right now about defensive driving, and while great, just touches the surface. You just about take your life in your own hands when you venture outside your home. Remember how we had specific hunting seasons up north, if you were a hunter?? Well, from mid-December to late March it is "Villager" hunting season in the tri-county area, keep that in mind as you go about your business or pleasure......

yes, everyone is ok. Chuck was bringing Patrick home from his massage, and they were sitting there minding their own business, when BAM! this guy decides to turn left, only he ran straight into the side of our car instead...and our car is red!

my poor husband, no type of defensive driving was possible in this case, he was just sitting there.

Oh Connie. I am so sorry.

You are right. People are just NOT paying attention.

Someone coming out of a tunnel almost hit me. I was going straight and they were coming out and I knew to slow way down because people don't always stop. They didn't stop. I had to.

My father owned a 1962 Turquouise cadillac and got a flat tire on the GW Bridge. As he got out of the car, a woman hit his car in the back. She got out of her car and asked him, "why didn't you have your blinker on".

He replied, "Lady, if you couldn't see a big old turquoise Cadillac, how the heck were you going to see a blinker"?

I feel your pain as there was nothing you could do.

BTW - I am glad no one was hurt.

I hope the man in the cart (who did not have insurance) is not too attached to his home and bank account. Get a good attorney!

He could be color blind. I worry all the time driving in the Villages of inattentive drivers of all kinds. Very sorry this happened.

Don't laugh as I recollect we had a gentlemen fro Oxford who was driving his golf cart on our cart paths because his license was taken away due to his inability to see well and predictably hit someone

It's scarey to think about...but there are many vision-impaired, can't drive cars anymore so they drive their carts!!! Then there are the folks who are on all kinds of medication that should be riding in a cab rather than transporting themselves!!! I hope your car wasn't badly damaged....also glad noone was hurt! Regardless if that road is dangerous or not...THAT MAN should have been driving defensively!!!!

File a claim with your auto company. You will have to pay the collision deductible but your auto company will subrogate against the at fault party and try and collect your deductible. Your husband did call and have a police report done, right?

Florida Law does not require anyone to have golf cart insurance but an operator is responsible for any injuries or damage due to their negligence.

Just thankful no one was hurt.

On the other side of the car/cart issue, I saw a pick-up slow but not stop for a right turn and almost wipe out a golf cart in front of him. The cart driver had to surve way to his left to avoid getting mashed. After the pick-up driver was stopped, along with the cart driver, he had his hands up off of the steering wheel in what I interpreted as a sign accepting total blame. I was approaching from the opposite way but had enough time to slam on my brakes to avoid the cart. Again, just not paying attention driving on "auto pilot". So glad there were no injuries.

Of course he did deal with the auto insurance company. They can deal with the driver, not us, unless things don't go well, but really, I am sure everything will be ok.

Nobody hurt!

Hit & Run Corvette Vs Golf Cart Morse Blvd

4:40 PM on Morse near San Marino close to the Mailbox Center, my wife was south bound in a gray Corvette black top convertible when a green golf cart made an abrupt left turn hitting the right front wheel and proceeded to slide down the passenger side of the car. Her first reaction was that the gentleman was injured. She pulled off the side of the road and the guy made a U turn and headed off in the other direction. He was wearing a straw hat with a black band. The golf cart was green. It has to have some serious front end damage. A witness tried to find him but without success. We have a witness statement but would like for anyone with information to contact me.

The green golf cart driver may have injuries. Although Corvettes are fiberglass, it still takes quite a bit of force to punch holes in the quarter panel, tear a mirror off, and shove the door back so it won't open.

The car been repaired and looks great. Final bill was $7600. Still not a clue about the HIT & RUN DRIVER.

We witnessed this accident....we were in our car coming opposite direction. Saw the whole thing...we were shocked the guy was pulling out from the stop and just drove right into the side of your car. I PM you with my email.

You are right in there was nothing your husband could do to prevent the accident. Glad to know it was not serious. There are some people sharing the roads who are in a word, irresponsible when it comes to driving and sharing the roadways. I don't have to give examples, we all see them every day. Continue to be defensive while driving, always look both ways to ensure it is clear before entering into an intersection or cross way. Yield to pedestrians, and always be courteous to others. We share the roads with golf carts so we have to be even more careful.

Some do drive like they are on a ride at an amusement park for sure. However the intersection at Pinellas, with Bradford Loop on one side and Charlotte directly across from Bradford Loop on the opposite side is a serious accident just waiting to happen. With the numerous lanes going in every direction with turn lanes too it is like an obstacle course to maneuver during the day. Something really needs to be done to help but apparently it takes an act of congress to get it addressed. Pinellas is blind almost from one direction due to a curve and the intersection is also close to the mail stop with heavy traffic.. Anyone else notice the problems there?

Very bad intersection I have noticed! Lots of construction traffic and cars coming from Morse. Many blind spots with large trucks.

Connie,

Glad all turned out well. I just don't get it. I have been here a few months and I am amazed at how people drive golf carts . No concern about anything around them . Same with cars. I have seen people pull out of parking spots and not look, not yeild in round a bouts , turn left in a right turn lane , and there is another thread that states that 2 separate people ran red lights in front of them within and hour.

People get killed in Golf Carts in TV !!!!!

Will you be at Chrispers tomorrow ?

It is tragic that we have 50,000+ golf carts in The Villages with little or no law enforcement recognition of the risks and need for monitoring and enforcing speed laws, children driving, reckless driving, passing laws, and many so ons. It is outrages what we see in the seasons, (e.g. Dec -Apl) and no or little enforcement by the 3 Counties, (e.g. Marion, Sumpter and Lake). We drive our cart almost every day and there is not one day when we don't see a number of violations. I guess "Outrages" is a good term for what is going on..

PennBF, please do not blame law enforcement. They do their best. Each county, Sumter, Lake and Marion have a huge area to patrol and work. They do more than work traffic. When they do give tickets for traffic violations, illegal golf carts, unlicensed LSV's, open container, etc this boards blows up with people complaining. Law enforcement goes to club meeting, golf cart safety clinics and much more to try and educate safety. Bottom line is people need to be courteous and drive safe. It would be nice if we lived in a perfect world but we don't.

It's not surprising that they didn't see the red car. Cars and carts alike (as well as bicycles) seem unable to see red stop signs or red lights.

Has anyone but me noticed that our beautiful landscaping here very often impedes the line of sight in many places? It's great when first planted, but then it grows up...big! I live in Summerhill and it's a challenge to get out of our postal station/pool area because of the landscaping and the fact that the road also has a big curve. The problem exists whether you are in a car or cart.

The intersection at the corner of Woodridge and CR 103 heading toward Walmart is really bad, too. Not only is there a slight hill on 103, but the plants and the big Steeplechase sign make it impossible to see until you pull somewhat out into the intersection. I don't want to be like the little old lady that told the responding officer to her accident as to what happened, "By the time I got out far enough to see if something was coming, it had!"

I came close to getting T-boned in my car on CR101 turning left one rainy, foggy evening when a car came flying out of the darkness in a dark car with no lights! Please remember to turn your lights on when you get in, expecially at night.

100% correct. Police could fix the problems in 2 weeks by writing some tickets. Everyone would slow down and be carefull.

I would love to ask the Powers That Be to have the landscaping cut back around the road exiting CVS onto CR 101. It's such a busy area with many plaza entrances and exits.

I wonder who the contact person is?:confused:
