First, how do you know you have a virus? If something popped up and said you have one, it is likely just a popup ad trying to sell you a fictious antivirus program.

Go to Google and download the free verion on Micrsoft Essentials. I would also download the free version of malware bytes. Run a complete scan for both these programs.

Thsi should fix your problem and should be run once per wek.

You need a bigger hammer.:boxing2:
Or you could try (free) Malwarebytes.

If you are still having issues, I would be glad to help. I have done IT work for the past 35 years before moving to The Villages last October.

Take care,
Gordy

What type of symptoms are you experiencing? Viruses come in all shapes and sizes and many require different approaches to remove them safely.

My wife once clicked on a "you may have a virus click here" type thing, and the next thing we knew we had a virus, and the only way we could get rid of it was to pay for their software to get rid of the virus.

We took it to a computer shop, they cleaned out the harddrive, and had to reinstall all my stuff. Cost a bit of cash. The next time my wife did that, we bought a new computer. Now she's not allowed to click on ANYTHING!!!

Back up your stuff using Carbonite or one of those other "Cloud" based back up companies. It is worth the $100 for 3 years. We lost lots of photos to a virus. Baby pics of our 5 year old son. Wedding pics, all kinds of stuff.

The link is from a post here awhile ago. I sums up what to do in this type of situation. malewear is out there and as we all know prevention is easier than the cure-- get a good preventative progrtam ( i use microsoft Secutity Essentials and AVG).
