What kind of fridge should we get?

Would appreciate input on what kind of fridge to get. We have a large top freezer in Ohio but not sure about side by side. Our son has one that is very large but still seems to have limited space inside. We're concerned that we might not like bending over for a bottom freezer on one with French doors. Any thoughts?

From my experience, side by sides have very limited space. I hated the freezer. Nothing fit....no frozen pizzas, no turkey.....shelves much too small. I now have the three door and I would prefer a two door....fridge on top, freezer on the bottom. Our current fridge has two doors on top and of course the lower one for the freezer. Not enough shelves for condiments in the two fridge door. I find the whole fridge to be small inside for it being such a large looking fridge.

My neighbor also,has a side by side and hates it. Freezer just too small. Best of luck with your decision.

My suggestion...get the largest one you can for the space you have....:D. I've had top freezer, bottom fridge; French door; side by side. For a while, the side by side was my favorite. The narrower freezer wasn't a problem, I had an additional freezer. As I said, the side by side was my favorite until we had a party with about 55 guests. Fridge too narrow to hold trays easily. Freezer too small to hold bags of ice. Also, we now buy lots of produce from the Farmers Market at Brownwood and find there isn't enough space. Think it's time to go back to the French door fridge. The one I was looking at has a sliding shelf and drawers in the freezer section....quite different from the one I had about 8 or 9 years ago. Also has lots of compartments in the fridge for produce.

Love my French door freezer....you know, freezer on bottom that pulls out. Now my husband does not have to kneal on the floor to get something out of the fridge.

During our search for a new refirigerator we looked at an LG French door model that had a door in door feature - for easy access to frequently used items. It was 30 - 31 cu ft. We wound up buying a different model because we really didn't think we would make much use of that particular feature.

Once you own a french door with bottom freezer drawer you will never, ever go back to a side by side.

What do you use the most every single day...in and out all day long?

The refrigerator section. So to me a top mount freezer is completely out of the question or running.

The side by sides by their very design limit visibilty and utilization. And worst of all the need to hunt and peck and move stuff around to find the pickles.

Measure the space you have...most importantly the width and the height. Then buy the biggest bottom mount/french door that will fit.
I ignore the depth measurement as unimportant because the difference in depth as size goes up is only a matter of one to three inches.....which for all practical purposes has no impact on the decision.

Don't be tempted to buy one that is only the depth of your counters.....you will be locked into almost no size choice and the smallest refrigerator.

All makes of refrigerator manufacturers are being very competitive these days. There is a lot of refigerator being offered for very reasonable prices.
Be sure to get the water and ice server in the door. Check place like HH Gregg, Best But, Home Depot and Lowes for best prices.

When we update, I will definately get the Fr. door, but wondering if anyone has a French door counter depth model?? I find we are always putting stuff toward to front of the shelf, not utilizing the back much at all. That may be different when we have the fridge on top, but we don't keep much in there anyway, so if it opened up the room, even just a bit, I think I might like that.

We have a Samsung french door. The freezer drawer has an inner drawer that accommodates better organization and easier access. The water/freezer compartment in the door takes up some of the room in the refrigerator, but having room in both the fridge and freezer that accommodates wide items is very useful. It makes a lot of noise when it defrosts. I don't know if this is characteristic of Samsung or all french door refrigerators.

I have a couple of lazy susan type trays in the refrigerator on which I keep condiments, butter, salad dressing bottles, etc. Just spin them around and you have easy access. The counter-depth gives you a move custom built-in look without the expense. Love it! We also bought a double-oven range. The top oven is small and my husband and I use it the most. The larger bottom oven is great for company or family dinners. We also bought a super quiet dishwasher-wonderful! Just because we moved to TV didn't mean I gave up cooking. I enjoy cooking and love these beautiful modern appliances.

Loved our Samsung french door frig! And no, it didn't make defrost noise at all. Quiet, beautiful with it's blue lights, very well organized. Since we moved here, where there was an old fashioned freezer-on-top frig, I'm sad and miss my wonderful frig. But sadly, it wouldn't fit the space here.

Love the double oven idea. Hadn't thought of it, but it sounds perfect for all those small meals for just two people. I use the conventional oven method even when I am heating something that has micro directions. I could live without the microwave. Would love an infrared in a design that would go over the range, but can't find anything except those round counter top styles. A super quiet dishwasher is a MUST, since our kitchen is basically in our living room. We currently don't run our old one until we go to bed, which is not a bad idea, anyway.

If you want electrical efficiency, a model with the freezer on top is your choice, since hot air rises and cold air naturally falls downward. Side by side refrigerators and ones with freezers on the bottom are energy hogs by comparison. Through-the-door automatic ice makers and water dispensers also consume significant energy and waste internal space. If you can live without them, all the better. My current top-freezer refrigerator consumes about 1/3 the power of my older side-by-side with ice/water dispenser.

We bought an LG LFX31925ST for our lunchroom at work a while back. It is very quiet and, so far, not problems at all. It has a bottom freezer with drawers. I wish I could trade it for that hunk of GE junk I purchase for our home a few years back.
