Golf cart headlights

Had a near death experience last night. Golf cart coming towards me had the most mis-adjusted headlights I've ever seen. They were so blinding, I had to stop till he went by. I just couldn't see.....I don't know he could see the cart path. When we got our cart, I had them adjust the headlights, and the stoplight switch. Some people just don't have a clue. Please check your headlights, it's a 5 minute adjustment, and if you don't know how to do it, the store will.:22yikes::oops:

On the yamaha carts, it's not a 5 minute adjustment. You have to disassemble the headlight socket, adjust, and re-assemble to try it.

My new Yamaha from the Villages were way off adjustment. I could not see in front of me as it was pointing to the ground. Not easy getting home from LSL.
I do think folks eyes get more sensitive though.
I have driven cars with HID lights since 1999.
Only in TV and in the last 2 weeks I have had 3 cars flash their brights because they think my brights are on.
I flash mine so they know they are not.

I totally agree. Had the same experience the other day at LSL square. Literally stopped my car until the cart went by, even flashed my headlights, which I never do but I thought the cart driver should know I was blinded by his lights.

On my new Yamaha body style cart the head lights are very easy to adjust. The light will move easy but snug just push or put a flat object into the top or bottom and move it up, down or to the side. If in doubt just stop by The Villages Cart shop and they will adjust them very quickly at no charge since it is so easy to do.

On our '10 Yamaha, I found the bolts in the headlight assemblies to be too tight to adjust them without doing what mulligan described in his post:

On a Yamaha, if you lay on your back and look up at the back of the light, there is a small silver spring loaded phillips head screw. Turn the screw counter-clockwise to raise the light beam, or clockwise to lower it. If you pull the cart about 5' from the wall, in a darkened garage, it's easy to see where the beam hits. Mark the center of both beams with a piece of tape before you adjust the light, then when you adjust it, you can tell how much you've changed the beam. Not necessary to remove the light and housing. Not on my 2013 yamaha. It has only a vertical adj via the mentioned adjustment screw. However there is no horizontal adjustment. Service said it couldn't be done As my lights were terribly off I removed them and shimmed with washers. Now they are great.

I was told on my new Yamaha that the lights can only be adjusted vertically and not horizontally. They were off a bit. The store adjusted for me prior to picking it up.

I had a 2007 Par Car that I bought new. One headlight was pointed so high I was illuminating roof tops as I drove. The service people told me there was no adjustment as the unit was just placed in a hole in the fiberglass shell. They suggested I loosen the unit and put a piece of electrical wire across the top to lower the beam and refasten the unit. I did that with great difficulty (The mounting system offered little leeway.) and it helped, but I'm sure it bothered some people I encountered. I hope they have re-designed the headlight module on newer models.

We were having trouble seeing at night in our 2011 ParCar when we and the cart were new. Had Par Car come out to adjust and he found that the headlights were installed upside-down. When a cart is new, you tend to trust that everything is good. We thought our night driving skills were going down the tubes.

At 19 MPH why would someone have to see 200 feet down the road???? I can't blame the owners I blame the manufacturers. Its a marketing ploy that one company did than the others had to follow! Extremely annoying and distracting to oncoming drivers.

On a 2013 takes you about 5 minutes per side from under the front fender with a common phillips head screwdriver.

The "Yamaha parts manual is on-line in a PDF that is how I learned how to adjust.

This is up down only no right left.

The cart I adjusted had the left headlight almost 4 inches higher than the right.

On another note the add on Wheels are to be torqued to 65 ft lbs. Mine were air gun ranked on over 115 ft lbs.

1. With the wheels blocked to
prevent the golf car from moving,
loosen the wheel nuts.
2. Elevate the golf car with a jack
and remove the wheel nuts and
the wheel.
3. Reverse the removal steps when
installing the wheel.
Wheel nut tightening torque:
88 Nm, 8.8 m.kg (65 ft.lb)

Also most new carts have mis-adjusted toe alignment anywhere from 1/2 -3/4 of a inch off causing tire scrub and poor bump steer - steering control.

When you contact the factory-Yamaha ignors this as the cart was made for quick turns on slippery Grass at speeds under 11 mph. Not 19 +++ on cement and Asphalt that Villegers use.

But hey for most consumers that purdy color fancy wheels and custom seat make up for all the boring technology maintenance items overlooked.

We have a club Car and the headlights illuminate the tree-tops quite nicely. We also were told here is no way to adjust them. Seems the aiming of the headlights is a function of proper installation when the holes are cut in the front shroud of the golf cart. Mess up the cutting of the holes and the headlights are miss-aimed forever.

I'm sure a strongly worded letter from an attorney to the head of that company would get some results. It's a safety thing.

We have a Par Car and the lights could be adjusted (vertically) as they were pointing a bit high.

I agree with the poster here....there are quite a few carts who need something done with their lights (blinding)!! It's like when a car has theirs on bright!! When one comes around a curve into that it would be easy to have an accident. THAT being said...do what I learned in driver's ed back in the day...look down and to the right. It will help some!

You know, driving a golf cart here on the streets is a PRIVILEGE and it was just 8 years ago that the PRIVILEGE was granted to use headlights to drive at night.

I don't think bringing lawyers into the mix is going to make anyone happy.

Slow down & grin & bear it when it comes to ISSUES with golf carts or the PRIVILEGE might be taken away.

I adjusted my Club Cars headlights real easily. Just loosen the 2 screws that hold the light and then wedge something under the bulb at the bottom. I used a piece of wood from a paint stir stick. Worked like a charm for many years.
