Every single person that I have met from New Hampshire here in The Villages has been friend material. Are all people from New Hampshire such warm and friendly folks with a wonderful sense of humor and "right footers"? Right footers is how we describe ethical people in Ohio

I sure am impressed with all people I have met from New Hampshire.

I had no idea there would be a club for New Hampshire residents. We don't exactly have the largest population. I live in Meredith and will be moving to TV in September. It's difficult to decide which clubs would be best for developing new friendships, but, at least I wouldn't have to find something in common with the members in this group.

Does anyone know how many members there are or even if one exists? If not, anyone on this thread from NH and who already lives in TV could look into starting one and then when a new NH resident moves to TV the group could be the 'Welcome Wagon'.

I know it would mean a lot to me, if such a group helped me maneuver the Village lifestyle and help me to get started socially.

I'm not exactly the most outgoing person and I think it's safe to say, more often than not, as a demographic we are a little more reserved than a lot of the other states represented in TV.

It's a big club, but meets at 8:00 in the MORNING - I'd like to go, but don't like people at 8:00am in the morning.

Meets at 8:00 AM? Must be the farm boy and girl in us. I remember growing up in NH and having to milk the cows at 5:30 every morning. Heck by 8:00 half the days work was done. :clap2:

I will have to attend the next meeting if I am there. Hope I still qualify. Lived there for 35 years and still own lots of land there including my cemetery lot. Guess I could also join the Virginia club as I have lived here for 24 years.

Have also lived in NY, NJ, MA, CA, DE, and a couple other places but those states and I didn't see eye to eye on the political scene. :D

Who would ever choose 8 AM for a meeting? Personally, the only cows I've ever seen were from a car, on the highway, and it wasn't at 5:30. Are there suggestion boxes for these clubs? I can't imagine that anyone who can finally sleep in, after getting up for work for 40 years plus would set the alarm to make a club meeting. How could they get anything done, with all the members nodding off...The snoring alone would drive us out.

Maybe we should create an afternoon or evening NH club. I'd be willing to meet you all in any square for our first meet and greet...
I was born and raised in NH - we still have deep roots in our granite state, but love our extended winters in FL.

I think a second NH club is a great idea, but suggest that whoever takes on this task gets in touch with the person running the early one first to run it past them. I did contact the guy running the early morning Club and he said they had put it to the vote and most NH members wanted to keep the early morning club. I am sure some of the "early" members would like to have a later meeting time if it was available. Several State Clubs have grown too big and are now splitting off into two clubs.

Sounds like a solid plan. Since, like me, some of us won't be down to the Villages for a few months Madelaine or Rocky maybe you two could see if you could start a second group - For those who would rather meet when the cows come home, rather than when they need milking.- I notice that KathyC, who started the thread hasn't been back. Maybe she found out about the sun rise service and went back to bed. Does anyone know if there are enough of us to have more than one group? I have seen the lists of the different clubs (and it's mind blowing), but I don't recall their showing the number of members. Is there such a list somewhere? There were a few other clubs I was looking into possibly joining. as well, but I would like to know how many members belong.

Hi Kate, We moved here from MA in January and have been enjoying ourselves. Went to the Baystaters Club and have had fun meeting fellow MA residents there. Have a great summer in Meredith, it is such a beautiful place. Please look me up if you want when you get here, we are full-time residents. I can't believe the NH Club meets at 8AM, that truly is way too early for me. I hope you are having fun as well Madelaine and it sounds like a second NH club might be a good idea with a more civilized meeting time. :) Take care, Ellen

I will Ellen,
In fact, I think that as soon as I make it down to the Villages in September, I'm going to throw caution to the wind and have a dinner party for all the wonderful people I've met online, since I first discovered Talk of the Villages. Everyone is so friendly and supportive, it's magical. To think I was scared to death about moving to such a huge place were I didn't know a soul and now I actually have met enough potential future friends to pull together a party where I'm not related to everyone on the guest list. Unless of course the only members of the New Hampshire club are still getting up at the crack of dawn. I have to draw the line on having a party in my pajamas.

We went to one meeting a while ago. I'm a Keene native and Sue's family had a summer home in Jaffrey for decades. We are also both UNH grads. The people we met at the club were very friendly (good observation as usual, Gracie) but many of their planned activities seemed like things we were interested in. Plus, 8 AM is not our preferred meeting time. So if someone does start a second club at a different time, we would be interested.

Someone on this forum knows how to go about setting up a new club, there are certain formalities which have to be followed. So, if you are around, would you fill us in on how it is done please.

By the way, I have lived here without a NH club for some years, and I have survived quite nicely. I will certainly see if one can be started, but I am not about to run one if it starts ..................... sorry

Also, in my opinion, as a courtesy to the person running the existing club, the idea of starting club #2 should be run by him to see what ideas he may have, because you can just bet that a club later in the day or early evening, would do much better than one at 8:00am.

Clubs are run be volunteers.

To Become a Volunteer or Start a New Club

The Recreation Department at The Villages has a variety of volunteer opportunities available for our residents to meet the growing needs of our community. Whether it is using your talents to run a recreation activity like aerobics, water exercise class, or leading a social club or hobby, we can help find the right spot for you on our team. Volunteers are also needed to help assist us at our recreation centers helping the staff or working a special event. If you would like to be involved or want more information about volunteer opportunities in our department please contact your nearest recreation center or email us.

To become a Resident Lifestyle Volunteer group, the group contact person completes a Resident Lifestyle Volunteer Survey Request Form (below) and Volunteer Application Sheet (below) and submits the request to the Recreation Department.

For more information please see the Resident Lifestyle Volunteer Guidelines or visit any Regional Recreation Center.
