I can only hope it is not a rumor. So miss El Santiago Rest. Do think it is the perfect location for some kind of eatery!

I would doubt very much if that would ever be a restaurant again.

In the last 9-12 months there has been no activity there... just a sign in the window with a phone number to call for leasing information. It is still just an empty shell of stud walls inside.

What happened there, Bonny?

It was one once?

It needed a lot of repairs done & Billie & Mel didn't want to pay for it. They thought it should have been the Villages responsibility. They were struggling to keep up with it. I used to live there when we lived in Santiago.
There are no more restaurants inside the Villages except country clubs. Chula & Silver Lake are gone. I just don't see the Villages wanting it to be a restaurant.

It's a shame it closed. My feelings were yes it was a bit of a trip to get there from St James. The Buffet decor and Island music made that place a happy place.
Everyone was so friendly and up beat the food and service were great
Can't recall any negative post.:sigh:

When we lived in Santigao I would have lunch after golf 2 x a week and we had dinner there 3 or 4 nights a week. Brian, who is now at Hacienda, is the best chef in the Villages.

Back around 2001-02, El Santiago was one of two places that people always talked about and visited. The music, the atmosphere, and the different menu were big attractions. The other was a seafood buffet at one of the country clubs that was the best I had ever been to. Nothing in TV ever came close to the offerings but that disappeared too. Oh well, things change.:cryin2:

Yes, I remember the seafood buffet at Hacienda back in the days you were supposed to wear a sport coat there. It was delicious !

My friend in Orlando, is the cousin of the lady in the couple who owned El Santiago, she does not know what happened!
K. Is sad that part of her family has gone back to the U.K.
