Someone mentioned that I should do a poll on the Top Ten Worst US released movies. There have been so many of these over the years. Gigli certainly comes to mind as does Showgirls and any number of Uwe Boll movies. Also Battlefield Earth. I would have a hard time getting a list up because of how differently some peope would view bad movies. Something considering awful by one person might be a movie so bad it is very good.

Hmm, really good question. I am thinking of movies I've walked out of:

Reds - Long and boring

Pay it Forward - You make a cute little boy a hero in a feel good story and kill him!!!!

And virtually anything with Sylvester Stallone.

I looked at a couple of lists on line of "bad movies". To my mind most of them were things like Ed Wood movies, or really cheesy sci-fi movies. Thing is, when something is that bad you kind of have to watch it, kind of like a car wreck.

This is not the worse movie, but my worse experience with a movie.

I was on a commercial flight from NY to FL back in the '70 and before boarding I was looking forward to putting on the ear piece and watching a movie to kill some time. When the movie started I sank in my seat. They were playing Mel Brooks Silent Movie. Not only were the ear piece useless but just my luck that I was seated back far enough that I couldn't read the captions on the screen! Loved the flight but hated the movie experience!

That was one creepy movie. One nasty winter my boss at the time suggested I rent this "fabulous" movie and curl up in front of the fire and hybernate. I did. I had previously thought her pretty darn weird, but this proved it.

Or else she had it out for me and wanted to ruin my weekend.

Other than that, I hated that movie with the "pod" people floating around in a swimming pool. Can't remember the name, but it was out about the time ET was. The kids loved it, so I had to sit through it.

That's really funny, Patty55. Kind of like calling Slumdog Millionaire a game show movie.

Of the Oscar winners for Best Picture over the past 25 years or so, I was not that impressed with Shakespeare in Love. The actors seem to have the most votes with respect to which films get the Academy Awards in certain categories, so they must have really liked Shakespeare in Love.

Seven Psychopaths had me scratching my head. Seemed to be a darling among the critics but not so much with the audiences.

I remember one of my bosses in a company that provided food services to Bowers Mansion Park in Washoe Valley, Idlewild Softball diamonds in Reno, Nevada; and a ski lodge that trained young kids in how to ski on Slide Mountain loved talking about A Clockwork Orange .

He disappeared on me for a while as I liked keeping up with the addresses of former employers. I had tried to call his former partner when I was in Reno, NV in 1989 for the Law Librarian convention. It turned out he had became a Warden in one of the State of Nevada prisons. I just hope he did not take A Clockwork Orange too much to heart.

Kind of liked that one just because the leading lady--Kim Basinger-- was quite attractive in that role.

One movie even though extremely well written, acted, and with great cinematogaphy, I did not much care for was No Country for Old Men. Just too bleak a portrayal of life for me. An even worse one along the same lines was Killer Joe with Matthew McConaughey playing a detective/hit man/pervert.

I saw Galaxy 3D today. the 3D space scenes were imaginative and visually watchable only in 3D. Clooney does a more or less cameo of a cardboard hero in a spacesuit (think Buzz Lightyear.) Bullock makes endless noises of heavy breathing and grunts meant to sound like she is desperately on her last breath, and manages to sound like a porn soundtrack. The plot, what plot? Bullock surmounts insurmountable survival challenges as an astronaut with 6 months experience on a spacewalk/repair mission gone awry--a plot that will confound any viewer hoping for a shred of credibility. btw there's nobody in the film but George in cameo and Bullock panting.

Any George Clooney or Nicholas Cage movie.
I agree that recently Nicholas Cage has taken the money and run route with his movie choices. I heard he loves real estate and has bought houses and property all over the world, which has effected his movie choices. However, his film 'Raising Arizona' is one of my all time favorite comedies, I actually saw it twice in the theater when it was released. It was made by the Coen Bros and has John Goodman in it, which all helps. I liked his first 'National Treasure' movie, also his film 'Red Rock West' was really good and a bit strange, but you're right, for the most part his movies are mediocre.

George Clooney on the otherhand, I've really liked a lot of his films. Just saw 'Gravity' in 3D and I thought it was terrific. 'Up in the Air' was a really great film along with 'Michael Clayton', 'The Ides of March', 'The Decedents', and 'O Brother Where Art Thou?' There are a few others that I enjoyed but were less than great and only a couple of his films that I was disappointed with. So I would have to disagree about him.

I've have about 2200 movies rated on IMDB, so the list for worse films for me is in the range of a hundred or so films that I had given a 1 or 2 rating. However, when I bought the DVD for 'American Graffiti', which I really loved, I didn't realize they made a sequel in 1979 that came as a bonus. That film was utterly terrible, so that is a movie I didn't anticipate being so bad. I could list many more films, but they would be ones you've never heard of, or with actors who were nobodies. So it's really hard to say the worse film when there are so many to choose from.

"Grand Canyon".

My nephew was in marketing and called to say he had tickets to a movie premiere that night and couldn't go. Would Uncle and I be interested. "Sure".

The theater is packed. We have good seats and are feeling quite privileged to be among this select crowd. The movie rolls. We sit there attentively watching. Finally, my husband leans over to whisper "what the h*** is happening?" I don't know either but I assure him that it will soon all come together and make sense.

I conjecture that perhaps we in the audience are part of a psychological experiment. We're being tested to see how long we'll sit and watch "nothing". Finally I can be noble no more and whisper "let's leave".

Now my husband takes the upper road and say's "we can't, Billy gave us the tickets". I settle back resigned to last until the credits roll (will anyone actually take credit for it?).

But…I'm saved. Hubby waves the white flag and whispers those words I've longed to hear…"c'mom, let's leave".

"Horrors Of The Red Planet" is so bad it's not even a "B" movie. Makes "Plan 9 From Outer Space" look like a classic (which, in it's own way, is). It's cheap, boring and loaded with bad acting. As a fan of really bad movies, this is the worst.

That's kind of a strange choice, personally, I loved Dances With Wolves. One of my supervisors at the U of MN Law Library was enamored of the Lakota people and language. She was ecstatic when it won Best Picture.

I dozed off several times. It was one of the most boring movies I've ever seen.

As far as it winning best picture, IMHO, it was one of those left wing Hollywood things. It had a political message so they lapped it up. They forget that their job is to entertain us and that movie just bored me.

I am kind of a Kevin Costner fan though even enjoying some movies which others see as real turkeys like The Postman and Waterworld. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/kevin_costner/

I have never really seen Hollywood as going left or right. There are a huge number of people involved in the making of movies and many of these are in other locations than Southern California and for every Kevin Costner there is a Kelsey Grammer. For every Jane Fonda, a Charlton Heston.

Pulp Fiction is a real piece of art for me too. I tried watching I, Frankenstein this afternoon and even the actors seem unhappy to be associated with it. Quite a different story with almost all the Tarantino movies. I see little correlation between real life violence and the movies unless you are taking about someone who has already blurred the difference between the two. And, sometimes very graphic violence is needed for the story like with Saving Private Ryan. You can tell that Tarantino has a real love and knowledge of movies from his work.
