Two weeks ago tonight, my dog Shaina passed away from heart failure. She was 14 1/2 and the sweetest dog.
A few months ago when she was sick I asked her if she would send me a rainbow to let me know if she was OK. The TV was on in the background with a commercial playing. As soon as I asked the question, I turned and a man was lifting a child up to the sky to see a rainbow. I know it was an insurance commercial, but I've never seen it before or have seen it since.
Last week the sun was coming through the bedroom windows hitting the clear plexiglass beads on the night stands. Three prism rainbows were on the bed as well as two on the wall with a big spark of light right next to them. They lasted for an hour and then faded away. (I'm not sure how the photos turned out, but they really were lines of color like a rainbow.)
A sign??? Maybe-but I'm still heartbroken.

She was trying to make you know that she will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge.
My heart is aching for you.

She had a long and noble life thanks to you ... us dog owners get our hearts broken each time we get a new puppy don't we? Pretty soon only the good times you had with her will be remembered.

It made you think of her, it was a sign! Sorry you lost her. It sounds like you had a very long time with her.

What a cutie girl! What kind was she? Did she like to go for walks or go to the dog park? Did she like to ride in the cart? Our dogs loved their visit to TV in the Fall, and we will be heartbroken when they cross the Rainbow Bridge. Hugs to you!

What a beautiful sign from you baby and a tribute to you. Unless you have had the honor of having a dog in our life you really don't have a clue.

Every time I read a story like this I tear up and wonder why I put myself through the pain, I have been through it 4 times, then I look over at my wonder companion that will be 6 this May and it becomes completely clear.
I hope you heal fast and get to the part where you remember only the good, I know your companion only remembers it that way now.
Sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you. We love our pets unconditionally and they return that love to us many times over. That is why we miss them so much when they are gone.

Thank you all for your kind words. Shaina was a shih tzu mix and about 5lbs. She had her "route" to walk around the block and then she wanted to go home to her garden. She loved being out in the garden, just walking in and out of the flowers and bushes or laying in the sun or on the front porch watching everyone go by. I can still see her every where in the house, especially on her pillow on the couch where she would lay there and watch me work around the house. I forget and find myself thinking she is really quiet, she must be sleeping...and then I remember. Or I think I need to let her out before I leave for work...and then I remember. And the sadness starts all over again. Hopefully all this will fade. But it is hard-it has just been the two of us and the house is so empty.
But I have lots of memories/photos lots of family and good friends who loved her as much as I did.

I am so sad for you and my heart aches to think of the time I might lose my Rosie and Sweetie. They have comforted me through my husband's passing and did the same for him during his illness. Each day I am so thankful for their unconditional love, and know you were truly blessed to have had Shaina in your life. She will be waiting for you at the bridge, tail wagging and kisses to spare. (((Hugs))) to you.

Our heart aches for you more than you can imagine. We are also experiencing the hurt and pain as we lost our friend Lady 20 days ago. We had her for almost 13 years. I'm sure they are playing at the rainbow bridge!

Sue, those of us who have been lucky to have loved and been loved by a dog know the pain and loss you feel. I grieve with you as I hear the stories of your baby and your love for your little girl. I am so sorry for your loss but I know the love you have for her and the memories will forever be in your heart and I hope you can use those to find the strength through these difficult times. May they bring you comfort. Sending you a big hug from afar. You were both blessed by such a strong and everlasting love.

I am so sorry for you, and know how you feel. We lost our first golden at 13. I spent two months crying, and when I couldn't stand it anymore, I got another puppy. I still miss Bear, but Crosby brings us love and joy. Maybe someday you will feel ready to have another furry friend.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Our furry companions capture our hearts but they do not really leave us - they are waiting for us on the rainbow bridge. Reflect upon all of the wonderful times shared with Shaina

One of the hardest things we go thru in life is losing a beloved pet. Been there, done that. I feel your pain.:cryin2:

What a sad and touching story. The rainbows were especially meaningful because of the Rainbow Bridge. You are in each other's hearts.

I am so sorry for your loss.
Keep remembering how lucky you were to have found Shaina, and how lucky she was to have found you (although don't we all feel we are the privileged ones). We know when a dog enters our lives someday they will leave us, and it makes them even more precious.
You gave Shaina the very best doggie life you could - and she's waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.

I absolutely believe that Shaina was letting you know that she is still with you. It is a loss, they bring so much love into our lives. She was a lucky girl to have such a loving companion and a beautiful life.
