Does anyone know of a street in the Villages that eventually crosses thru itself ???
Answer: Near the Hacienda Golf Course ( Palms 9) there is a street that the engineers designed to purposedly confuse drivers. Augustine Dr. journeys in a large loop and crosses thru itself for a short distance. I wonder why the engineers designed sugh a thing when it would have been so easy to add a different street name for that portion that crossed thru Augustine Dr..

Trust me. Augustine Dr. is a street where one can easily become lost.

Wow, that is an interesting street.....and I imagine it can be quite confusing, but if you start at the beginning, you have a nice long walk, a LONG walk...:D

Villages seems to like to have streets cross over themselves -- seems like there's one about every third village. And then there's the street name change for no fathomable reason (think O'Dell, Bailey). Someone seemed to have a lot of fun designing the streets and their names (like Bassinger and Baldwin intersection).

I get so confused on the Loops and Circles! the first time I discovered one I was on a golf cart and sat at the loop's intersection with itself scratching my head...

There is also a house on the corner of Dipper Loop and Dipper Loop. But isn't that the definition of a loop?

There are a bunch of streets like that. Pennecamp Dr. comes to mind - it loops around at its northern end.

I have to hijack yet another thread and tell you that in West Chester, Ohio where we moved from there is an intersection of two streets.

Grinn and Barrett.

Honest.

Now back to the regularly scheduled program.

Best street name back home is Stoner. The township was replacing the sign every week or so. They finally attached the sign to a telephone pole about 20 feet off the ground and then they greased about 10 below the sign with heavy black axle grease. They even tack welded the nuts to the bolts so you can't get it off with common had tools. You either have to be really desperate of have a tall ladder to get the sign down now.

As Gracie said "Now back to the regularly scheduled program:.

I did a quick look at TV on MapQuest and I found a large number of streets all called Loop that cross over itself. You would think TV would have found a better way.

One other thing that surprises me is that TV never used many of the names used in the board game Monopoly (Atlantic City).

We used to live in Pennecamp - 3 houses from the corner of Eldridge Loop and Eldridge Loop. We now live in St. James at the corner of Yankee Clipper and Yankee Clipper.

And just east of the Tierra Del Sol club on Palo Alto Ave. is the corner of Palo Alto Ave. and Palo Alto Ave. The street signs for this intersection:
Palo Alto Ave./Palo Alto Ave. will verify this!!!!! Looks a little strange when you come upon it??

Some of the street "confusion" occurs when a street such as Odell enters into another CDD and the name is changed to Bailey Trail. A number of streets are named uniquely. While traveling through South Carolina, I ran across a number of streets that are in the Village of Caroline. Irmo lane for example---always wondered where the Developer got that name---there is a small town in South Carolina named Irmo! OP is correct about streets crossing over each other---for a lot of better reasons it pays to drive sober in The Villages----depending on where you live you might not be able to find your way home!
