Dave Clark 5
The obits in this mornings Newsday (Long Island) mentioned that Rick Huxley, bassist of Dave Clark 5 passed away. The report went on to say, The band was known for drummer Dave Clarks driving and exuberant vocals. Give me a break Everyone with any musical knowledge knows that the vocals were sung by the late Mike Smithwho doesnt get the credit he deserves.

Why do these newspaper reporters so often screw up the facts? This day and age, with Google at your fingertips why not search info and get the facts right. If you dont know what you are doing or are not sure, look it up. A reporters job is to get it right.

The article never mentions that Huxley follows Mike Smith and Denny Payton in death.

I'm here. I get Newsday on line. My neighbor is sending me pictures of the house in NY and the unplwed street. My neighbor said "Since I went to Florida in mid January the sun hasn't shinned since in NY. She asked me to return ASAP and bring the sunshine withme.

My understanding is that Dave Clark owned and managed the DC5. He had the other four guys on salary, and he kept the profits. He still owns all of his publishing and the rights to the TV program Ready, Steady, Go. He has only released two Greatest Hits CDs by the DC5.The DC5 albums have never been (legally) released. Dave is quite wealthy; well, not Sir Paul wealthy, but pretty well off.

Sorry to read this. Thanks for posting it Tom. New York Times did a better job at reporting:

The Dave Clark Five had more appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show than any other musical act.

Not only that, but Dave Clark did not play on any of their records. He was a terrible drummer and had a studio musicians play on the recordings. So his exuberant drumming was someone else's. Yes, Dave started the group and "owned" them and paid the others a salary. He even coerced Mike Smith to add him as a co-writer on several of the songs even though he didn't write a words or a note. The band had a great number of huge hits, many number ones, but Dave Clark is not held in very high regard by musicians that know him. He really screwed a lot of people.
