Well, I do not know what to make of this. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/02/14/space-asteroid-idUSL1N0BE8HW20130214

Certainly gives scientists a very rare opportunity.

I wonder how much damage to the earth an asteroid would cause as it is the size of half a football field, (50 yards or 150 feet).

It is not going to hit it but I was wondering.

Wasn't there a movie that something like this was suppose to hit the earth and some people were sent up to destroy it before it could do damage? It was suppose to be science fiction.

Not to sure anymore.

Thanks Tal. A 100 feet size asteriod will affect 825 sq miles.

So 150 foot asteriod affect 1212 miles assuming the impact doesn't increase exponentially. That could be a big mess if it hit a populated area. Ouch!!!!
